He jumped. Don’t you remember? He left us for Leeds United after they paid out his contracted exit payment.
So speaks a man who knows he was out of his depth once his comfort zone started to get a bit prickly. He was fine when working with the lads he knew inside out, increasingly less so as the squad changed. The job at Leeds was a win-win situation for him. He got out of a job he could no longer do and got rewarded richly for another where it wouldn't be held against him when things went wrong. Everyone gets sacked at Leeds.
It's all well in hindsight mate. That group of players were propping league one up at one point. Who would have suggested giving them all new deals then? Some people even doubted whether those lads would do anything in the Championship. They were all totally unproven. It's really not as clean cut as we all like to think, either way.
That's all fair comment, but talking about spending someone else's money to try to compete with the wage Villa offered really isn't.
For ****'s sake. Are you going to drag this post up now repeatedly for the next three years? I meant I have more opinions but they're verboten on here so not worth saying.
Now now Conan. No need for profanities. If you have an opinion on summat then I want to hear it. As we all do. With regard to the other thing you mention though - if you push me I must say that I'm not so keen on this three year limit you speak of.
bit of self preservation , bit of getting his own side out there, maybe the club realised he was off so thought they might as well pick players they wanted.Who knows what happened, one things for sure you won't be able to get the truth from any one sided version. Regarding him getting personal abuse, its not right and I don't agree with it BUT I don't understand his thinking that he could effectively shaft his local club and expect things to just carry on as they were. As far as I'm concerned any sensible bloke having decided to fk off ( especially )to Leeds would have had his house on the market and his family as far away from possible abuse as possible.
On the opposite side of the coin, I give you Ashley Fletcher. Someone gave him a big fat wage on the back of his loan and promotion with us. He's cost someone a lot of brass and hasn't pulled up any trees. Works both ways.

Dunt he have three girls under thirteen? How could even the most disgruntled Barnsley fan in existence even dream of giving them one word of abuse? Or his wife for that matter.
I agree, Robins left after differences with the board but as far as I can remember he kept his council. What he’s done here is denigrate the working of the club and called our dead chairman a cheap skate. Shame on him.
Have you actually read the article !?!?! Clearly his position at the club was made untenable - and it was made untenable because the management of the team was taken away from him i.e. incoming players. And that ties in with Heckys comments after what Ganayes had said ........... when Ganaye said ‘they were disappointed he had left the club’ - and Hecky answered by saying ‘they (Barnsley) are bang out of order in what they have said’.
I don’t get his airing the clubs dirty washing is going to do him any favours in getting another job.
I'll PM you if you like.
I'd prefer us all to know. Cos I'm posting on a forum available to all (apart from HT, those two dingos - Zazlos and ??? -who polluted the place for a while, and anyone else banned). You can't get taken to task for telling the truth. Shirley.
Then people need to stop talking as if replacing players was just an easy matter. We don't know half of it, and as he did when he was here, hecky is still hoodwinking people into bashing the club.
I don’t know he is. But in my opinion from what I’ve seen, I think he will prove to be. The team has a purpose and structure, they are well drilled defensively and they all seem together and genuinely happy to be at the club. Everyone knows their role in games, and he acknowledges the teams weaknesses and fallibilities after games and doesn’t try to pass the buck. Heckingbottom did well for us for a while but none of the teams (which he didn’t inherit) showed all of those attributes. He was done over by having the team sold from under him though. He was almost universally liked by the supporters, and the fact he was so supported probably earned him additional respect and kudos from the players. Having had the team sold and replaced with players of lower quality and perhaps in many cases that he didn’t choose, he did well to make the team in any way competitive. I thought he lost his way a bit though.
