Except they weren't all under 25. Roberts was 25 when the season kicked off. Watkins turned 25 in October, Winnall in January and Hourihane in February of that season. Nyatanga, who started 19 games was 27. Kevin Long, who I'd argue was just as important as Hammill in turning the season around was 25. And Hammill himself was 27/28. When there are so many exceptions, it ceases to be an argument you can use. We didn't get promoted last time with a team of players under 25, under any definition.
25 and under the policy is? As ethan pinnock is 25 and adam Davies 26 we could have more at 25 but thats just off top of my head and probley have players turning 25 shortly. I thought nytanga was a poor player for that season. But I've already said hammill helped us go up no doubt he did very little to keep us in the championship the season after he struggled to get a kick the 1st half for Ryan Kent. Like I've already explained people calling for older heads, more experience because youth didn't keep us in the championship... experience didn't keep Burton there either. I'm quite happy with how we have started 4th with a game in hand but just thought I would summarise some of the knee jerk posts.
I might be wrong but I am under the impression that the club policy is to sign players under the age of 25 , with a view to maximise potential & return from the player , however , I have not seen anything that indicates that it is club policy to ditch players once they have turned 25 & I would not be surprised as the years roll on, to see players in our squad who are in their late twenties or even older & they will be experienced players who have gained their experience by playing for us.
I think some of the comments are valid. Experience being one. A real leader on the pitch around this young team would have been a very good idea. I genuinely think this team will get better as the season goes on. Bahre is adjusting to English football & I think will be a revelation in the second half of the season, youngsters like Brown are gaining valuable game time, Thiam is looking like the player we hoped we had signed & Woodrow is only 2 weeks away from fitness (sorry I couldn't resist). I'm not sure wingers are the way this team is set up to play as such, more of a wing back system. I think Hedges & Cavare could play those positions, with either 3 at the back, or the current system of playing two holding midfielders deep. Hedges probably not yet fit enough to do that for 90 minutes though. Davies has regained form this season, after a nightmare in the previous one & I think we won't see anyone come in. I had hoped for more experienced cover, but it hasn't happened. We'll see what the priorities in January are I guess. Getting Mowatt's deal sorted must surely be the first priority.
Is it 'moaning' to simply have the opinion that an older head might help the young players cope better in a division that calls for a bit of guile and physicality? Particularly if it is expressed as part of a post that was constructive? If so then I'm not sure why some of us bother.
