Other than the opening 15 minutes or so, we dominated the game, hit the bar twice, had other efforts go close and scored one to their none. They had a couple of breakaways second half but other than that, we were the better side and deserved our victory and three points. After the double defeats on the road, it's been a superb response to have two wins, two clean sheets and remain unbeaten at Oakwell. Players back from injury too. Chance now to test a few things in the next three games, rest some key personnel perhaps? I'm chuffed with how the season is going and will keep taking it one game at a time. Very little interest in how this squad would fare in the division above right now. Something you'd probably focus on more if/when a promotion actually occurs. But worth remembering the last side who got us promoted from this division were bottom of the league in that particular November. I like that Jay has stuck to his guns though. I think he predicted a second successive relegation at the start of the season. I had no idea how we'd do, and still wouldn't like to predict our end game. But after 16 games we certainly look a competitive side and are right in the promotion mix. Some big games against sides around us coming up, once the three cup ties are done with. They might tell us more about our prospects. But aye. Well deserved win again today, like last week. Not a great display by any means, but a win and clean sheet. Take that every week, personally. I love winning. Bring on the Checkatrade...
And FTR, I wasn't 'telling you' anything. I was adding my thoughts to a thread you started. It seemed a thread of views on this game. I added mine. I wasn't at any point talking directly to you within my post. But while you're here, did you predict relegation or have I imagined that?
agreed ...it's like when a commentator says "THEY WERE SAVED BY THE WOODWORK" no they were not they bloody well missed.
sunderland also drew 2-2 at home to Posh. Give them a break, we aren’t great at the minute i admit that. but can’t see us finishing below 4th
In reality we aren't on course for 89 points. Our PPG includes the 10 points out of 12 achieved by the superior 'gegenpress' team which featured Bradshaw.
How is that talking directly to you? I referred to you. It's a weird debate I've ended up in and I'm home to alcohol now so I'll leave you to your LOLing.
I thought we deserved to win. Hit the woodwork twice, goal ruled out which shouldn't have been (I think, though I have not seen it again) and generally had the best of the play. But man, I am concerned about Cavaré. I wonder about the wisdom of letting McCarthy go.
Seen theirs and ours, the offside decisions were incorrect in my opinion, especially ours. Shame, would have been nice for Cauley to notch on debut.
I recommend following the game via the club's official twitter feed. They make it sound like we are the better team and/or unlucky every game and you log off with a much warmer glow than attending games.
Interesting. You feel their offside decision was incorrect too? He looked miles off to me. But I so, so often get these things wrong and end up looking daft when I watch it again.
It's not weird mate, you came on here and told me how it is. My first paragraph: "Spoken to a few people who thought we were the better team. I really didn't. I thought we had much more technically proficient players but I thought they played better. Also spoken to a few people who thought they were the better team. Conclusion from that is it was about even." - Gave my thoughts, not sure if I'm right, heard arguments from both side, so concluded that it was probably a bit better than what I thought. Yours: "Other than the opening 15 minutes or so, we dominated the game, hit the bar twice, had other efforts go close and scored one to their none. They had a couple of breakaways second half but other than that, we were the better side and deserved our victory and three points." - Told me exactly how it was with no concession for other points of view and referring back to previous posts to prove me wrong for good measure. So yes, LOL. -
I had it as an even first half with poor finishing from Southend and missed chances for us as well. They looked really good in the first quarter of an hour with slick, fast counter attacks. However, they either couldn’t keep that up or just rebooted to try and get a draw. Second half we dominated. Not sure if they even had a shot?(offside not counting!). Certainly Davies didn’t have a save to make and he didn’t have a really difficult shot or cross to deal with in the whole game. We hit the bar twice - how Pottsy didn’t score today I don’t know. Not saying it was a good game. I even called it Sunday League at times (harsh). Like last Saturday though I thought only one team was going to win it. Glad we did!
I'm probably judging it more from the perspective that we were at home. Maybe wrongly, I expect the home side to have more of the ball, maybe more chances. If I'd gone away from home and seen us create us much as Southend did today compared to what we did, I think I'd be on here claiming we deserved more from the game.
