Over recent games we are playing so narrow. Any width generally only comes from the fullbacks coming forward. The problem is it leaves loads of space behind them so reduces the number of times they run forward. I would love to see out and out wingers and more pace going forward but not sure that's the Stendel way. Several times yesterday you could cover all the players on the field with a bed sheet. Im hoping that Woodrow has some pace so he can stretch the game running off the shoulder of back four. Time will tell. I think the only way Isgrove will get in the team will be if he converts to a wing back. A little like Hedges can offer.
It’s been an obvious tactic of both Bristol and Southend to lay the ball back and play down the channels behind the full back. Pinnilos got very little protection from Thiam and the least said about Cavare’s performance the better! I’m hoping with Woodrow now coming back to fitness we’ll play 4-4-2 as we need to have a plan B.
Yes!!! A "Plan B." Thats exactly what we said yesterday. Other teams seems to have worked us out since the win at Peterborough.
Doesn't appear that Stendel likes wingers. Can't see us playing 442 with Isgrove and Hedges starting. Got rid of Hammill too.
I think it's because he knows our defence is so weak it needs two defensive midfielders camoed in front of them to protect them. Leaves no room for two wingers because with 6 players acting as defenders he has to either play one up front and have two wingers or two up front and sacrifice a winger. Alternatively we could get shut of the players who simply aren't good enough and then not worry about having to accommodate them by ******* up the formation
A lot of the big clubs play this 4-2-3-1 system but play with more width. Unfortunately we have players with a limited skill set who can’t quite grasp the system. You can still play 2 more defensive midfielders and play with wingers. I don’t think our defence is weak, it’s down to the lack of cover the fullbacks get due to the midfield playing so narrow. We miss Dougall massively as he is that cover we need when the fullbacks go forward.
Exactly. New big ******* Muller style keeper. A couple of pacey full backs that overlap like White used to brilliantly with Hammill, two wingers and 442. Easy this coaching lark.
