Today, November 7th 2018 signals 100 years to the very day that Wilfred Bartrop was killed in action on the Western Front with the British Army, losing his life just four days before the Armistice in November 1918.

So tragic, the war was nearly over. My great grandad was wounded at the Somme in 1916. He was 97 when he died. Probably one of the most amazing people I have ever met. He saw us raise the cup. This lad is a legend.

 

my great Grandfather was on his way back from the frontline... he was going home to see his first born son Edmund. He got to a place known as Hellfire corner and was blown to bits, he never even got to see let alone hold his son his first child . My Uncle Edmund, his first born son, became a priest and won gallantry medals for his work during the Glasgow Blitz's I have nothing but respect for the men who have given their lives and services to their country... I served 32 years, was in a couple of horrible places but was never really in danger. But my feeling and respect for everyone of our Lads and lasses who served in whatever way or conflict go deep with me.
