I know I've mentioned him before, but so good to see him playing well again yesterday, albeit against a lower league team. I'd written him off, but like Mowatt he's come back and is showing what he's about. Hopefully Fryers will also thrive at this level. Started and finished a move yesterday which won't harm his confidence. Add Woodrow and Hedges to the equation, and things are looking bright after our wobble against Shrewsbury and Charlton. Accrington should be a cracking game.
Like anybody who hasn’t played much - you need run of games to get match fit and find your form. That’s what has happened here. Pleased for him.
Agreed, but also hes benefitted from Dougal being out. He's playing in that deep role with it all in front of him and is doing a decent job.
Yeah. That’s football sometimes isn’t it. No injury to Dougall may have meant little time for him and ultimately shipped out on loan in Jan. You always need that little luck or chance to make it.
Agree. I didn't think he was playing great at the start of the season and didn't offer much.. but he had a horrid injury, just come back from loan, and was learning that new deep defensive role. Well in, Cam. Keep it up.
If you read back at the threads over the last few years on here slating our players, saying they are not good enough then this season shows we should be a bit more patient as Potts, Mowatt, etc have all at some point on here been a target and with a bit of time they have come good.
Not sure he didn't fancy them he couldn't get the best out of the players he had. Didnt help he played player out of position he played mowatt 1st game of last season v Bristol on the wing ffs but he could do no wrong in some people's eyes it was always the players fault and hecky was blameless. Glad mcgheen has started to come good was my motm v Luton at home aswell could give keep dougall out when he is fit if he carrys on.
I don’t think hecky had much choice, well actually he had too much choice none of his own but that’s not the point we had 5 players for one position. He obviously worked out which was best in his opinion.
For me it's as simple as it was too soon for the squad that Hecky started with to compete in the Championship, we would have been better with Barnes and mcburnie for the full season but without it was too much for these players but to me they are growing into decent players and hopefully next season with a couple of additions will give a better show of themselves in the higher league
Yeah I agree with that. Some of our players were ruthlessly criticised last season, but most had some decent games. Problem was that they weren't all at the same time regularly enough.
After we lost scowen etc I'm sure we signed a dozen unproven lower league or foreign players and some seemed surprised that they struggled, with hindsight looking back not really a surprise they struggled and with Bradshaw up top on his own Pep would have struggled to get a tune out of them. Sometimes it's been shown to drop down to come back up stronger and hopefully we are on the verge of that now.
To be fair Mowatts performances had hardly warranted him staying. I’m glad this season he’s playing as well as he is, player of the year contender if he carries on
