Lots of people are more qualified than the people elected, to run the country. In fact the country is not run by those we elect. Thankfully. What you seem to be saying is that the electorate are so dumb they ought not to be even given the chance to vote. "Uneducated masses" -if a Tory MP ever uttered those words he'd be hung.
They asked what the country wanted... because they didn’t know what the country wanted. They knew what the people who blow smoke up their arses at conferences said to them. It blew up in their faces as they were genuinely shocked that a: the people cared and b: they wanted out of the EU... Again, I’m glad you enjoy everything the government do for you. Were you qualified in voting? Again, A Doctor is trained for many years before even touching your tonsils.,, not just thrust into position because they went to Harrow.
The only people more qualified than the people elected to make the decision on continued membership of the EU WERE the experts in the field. The very people Gove said we didn't need to hear from. Instead we resorted to the insights of people who voted out to get rid of muslims. And don't tell me that's a canard because I saw them interviewed on tv and met one or two.
About 45 years ago we decided to move in with the neighbours and we did this because we knew what the ground rules would be. In the intervening years, every aspect of our lives has become intricately tied to the rules of the household. We decided to move without having a clue about what the alternative could be after so long and with the family members each wanting something very different. The whole referendum was a sham as a 'Leave' vote was effectively a vote for an infinite number of outcomes the whole thing is so complex. Not one 'Leave' voter knew what their vote would lead to. They still don't. The irony is it's inconceivable to see a unified UK if Brexit takes places. It's almost logically impossible unless we risk peace in NI. It might take 20, 30, or 50 years but it would be inevitable the home nations would have to break up. Which flies in the face of the weary argument that Britain is better off out and we can carry clout on the global stage. Brexit will mean Britain is no longer. At least the Little Englanders will still have St George (a Turk).
Again, I refer you to Michael Gove saying we didn't want experts giving their opinion. At that point I completely lost any sympathy for the leave camp. I'm raging mad at the utter stupidity of the decision inflicted on this country by him and his ilk. That said I quite like a lot of the stuff you post on other subjects and i dont want to get into a slanging match so let's leave it there.
What about the hard remainers! They never grasped the harsh realty of been bullied by Brussels. There’s always a flip side. So can you remind me - as I love accuracy! What did the remoaners ‘hard reality’ meticulous plan really involve? I must have missed it or been too busy nonchalantly launching myself from Lemmings Cliff (colloquial for us Brexit people) and failed to hear the foot stamping arrogance. There was never a choice after the vote - that’s the whole point of a democratic vote in a ‘so called’ democracy.
I reckon that if you asked the English if they wanted to stay part of a United Kingdom, then given the attitude of half the Scots and the **** that we'll continue to suffer from their politicians, and given the trouble that Ulster always brings, we might well say no.
There are many ironies... Both sides are convinced that in or out, the outcome is doom.. and because if this, the outcome will be doom whatever happens. In other words stay in, Europe will shaft us... leave, and Europe will shaft us. Brexit will mean an unified uk... but remain and we’ll also have an unified UK...
"Bullied by Brussels" really is a lot of ****. We were and still are a full part of the decision-making bodies. Taking our bat home does not make us bullied by anyone, just victims of our own stupidity.
Given what we now know a new vote is the only sensible answer. On the ballot - mrs May Brexit, no Brexit or a headbangers full on let’s burn the house down Brexit.
Brussels has made it suitably difficult and has highlighted how they would stand so that other countries teetering in doing the same are discouraged.
You know its got surreal when you find yourself thinking the front page of the Daily Mail makes good sense
Come on SB, of course there were experts. Gove admitted as much when he said he didn't want their opinion for one thing!
Experts? There still aren’t any experts. It’s too wide ranging. Not only do you need to be expert in business, deals, uk law, European law, world wide laws, imports, exports, etc. But you also had to be a psychologist, psychiatrist, etc... You may have found an expert in a couple or a very few of the fields... but not all. unless the expert understands all of the ramifications, they are merely an expert in their field... not brexit. We have many people in here who purport to be experts, most have read the telegraph, guardian or in some cases the sun. Now I’m no expert, but in a mystic meg moment... I can see that Europe would never make it easy, there’s too much at stake with confidence of other member states. A deal done with Britain’s cards on the table and Europe’s close to their chest was always going to end in tears.
