I have given up reading this thread.

People are not going to change their minds by abuse.

I'm happy to disagree with folks, but I come on here for banter mainly. Not saying more important issues can't be discussed, but a forum of people who cannot see or hear each other talk is always going to get bitter arguments occasionally. I've unwisely got involved on a couple of occasions.....

They interviewed one in tarn and broadcasted it on the national news. It has been discussed on this forum many times.

And the misinformed individual was not alone in his thoughts. In the days and weeks following the Brexit vote, more than half of the Muslims that I work with in Leeds were laughed at, and told they’d have to ‘go home’ now we were leaving the eu.

To his great credit one of them responded with a smile and asked when the next bus home to dewsbury was.

A great many people up and down the country experienced the same: it is well reported.

I’m not accusing you of being xenophobic, racist or ill informed @dekparker. But don’t try and convince me that at least a significant proportion of the leave vote weren’t exactly that.

I'd genuinely love to know how many people who voted leave, also start sentences with 'I'm not racists but...'

    100% correct.
There's talk of racist comments at the match today. I don't know if that's true. But I have encountered, and challenged, racist comments at Oakwell. There's a percentage of the British, more particularly English population who ARE racist.
I'm pretty certain they won't have voted Remain.
That's not me saying all those who voted leave are racist. But it is me saying that percentage within the leave vote was enough to swing it.
I know five people who voted leave and who I've discussed it with.
One was a Rees-Mogg type. Didn't want any imposition from Brussels. Three thought there were too many foreigners in the country and one voted out for a laugh because he thought Remain was going to win easily.
And 18 months later here we are. It's all going just swimmingly.

By the same token, Newsnight featured a young lady on a mission to change the Leave views of her family....the key benefit for her was that she liked to travel abroad...unaware that you could travel abroad easily before the EU.

So, did we all enjoy the win today, you know, when Barnsley had a match and that?

The problem with the assertions in your post ( which I agree with as things currently stand,(and IMO only,) is the assumption that the EU is rock solid, stable and likely to remain so. I genuinely believe the Euro will fail which, in turn, will lead to the demise of the EU in its current form. That is not necessarily a bad thing as I do not understand the logic of the link between free movement (for everyone) and tariff free trade agreements (what we originally had in the EEC which then morphed into the politically driven monster that is the EU).
The EU can certainly survive one or two crisis, but the pressure is mounting. Rising debt, banks, particularly Italy )the 2nd biggest economy in the Eurozone) on the brink of failing, the Greek debt (problem kicked down the road again!! )
Falling growth in Eurozone now that the massive ECB QE program is ending that made EU growth look better than it actually is.
The main problem is the North South divide (PIGS) suffer high employment etc. in part because the Euro rates etc. are set up for the German economy.
All that will eventually take its toll. As I have said before, most remainers are focused on the UK problems and see the EU as the only game in town. Yes, I am making predictions that I cannot prove ,but then again, isn't everyone on both sides of the argument.

because as soon as people start to defend the leave vote or question the level of immigration they get called a racist or xenophobe, mind you it makes a change from being branded thick or uneducated

I'm a remainer, but I know a lot of people who made educated decisions regarding leaving the EU, that were not racist. My big problem with the whole thing on the leave campaign was the lies told about money for the health service & the promises that it would be easy to do a deal with the EU.
