Defense was ready for cracking on setday. Only cos donnie couldnt finish saved us. Been put to sword tonight. Automatic promotion seems a bridge too far with current squad.

We haven't got a midfield that can do the job.

I agree, but our midfield have been non-existent too.

Full backs commit forward to early short of defensive minded midfield, generally caught wrong side of the ball in midfield

Yet in the last 2 games opponents goal scoring opportunities have largely been put on a plate for them by none other than our own individual errors. Talk about formations/tactics all you want but there is no legislating for errors of judgement and actions that are of a basic nature or not clearing the ball when there was ample opportunity to do so.

Midfield hardly give any cover to back four and if your philosophies are to defend as a team your feked straight away imo.
Doesn’t help when your right back isn’t performing and panick sets in as soon as teams come onto us.
Managers suss our weaknesses out very easily it must be a naivety on our part .
We need an organiser /enforcer ASAP or our seasons done as far as autos are concerned .
I must say on the occasions we get it together we are a joy to watch and far from a shambles when we under pressure .

He was sat a couple of rows in front of us at Sunderland last night. You're right we miss him badly.

Fully agree. I thought what I've seen of Bird or Ben Williams it may be worth giving them the run in the cup games.

Yeah it's good to have options but we don't have anyone as good as Dougall at the club. We're really struggling to fill his boots and despite improving McGeehan isn't as good.

No, that was one of the glaring issues at the start of the season.

Goalkeeping cover was another, although Adam has been outstanding this season we did need the Nottingham keeper on loan. Walton has done well when needed, so we may scrape through on that, but if we really want promotion, then yes & send a couple of the younger keepers out on loan.
That could be the next problem, if not.

Yes, we need a full back. Cavare has been shown wanting I'm afraid. Shame, as he looked good at the start of the season.

i agree with this JP. Davies is very good at this level but cover definitely needed now Walton is injured. Cavare is a bit of a liability now after looking so promising earlier in the season.

January is going to be a big month for us. Retain our best players and spend some money on a few decent players and I think we can still push for the automatic spots.

I don't think we've had particularly good shape all season really. We're best playing 4-4-2 but don't have the wingers needed really, at least not fit and firing. So we've got Thiam and a central midfielder out wide, McGeehan who's naturally attacking playing deep and then Mowatt who is also attacking, doing a bit of both. We're getting by most weeks through individual talent and the lack of quality opposition but it's never quite felt right for me since August. I think we can get in the top 6 playing whatever formation to be honest, we're good enough to grind out results against most of the league but I don't feel we've quite found the best system yet, more powered through with what we've got.

We look best playing 4-4-2. We've got the forwards for a 4-4-2 with wingers crossing balls in, but we've still got a midfield more suited to 4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1. Throw in the fact that Moncur, our most creative talent, needs to be playing behind a striker to perform best and it's all a bit awkward.

Totally agree Gordie, The reason Cavare is being found out is because earlier in the season he would go on one of his marauding runs and Kenny would close down the space behind him.

The full back situation is as bad as it has ever been. I think I would take Carl Regan and Paul Gibbs over our current options.

Hmm Defensively I think you are right Cavare is worse - he is better going forwards though - also last season McCarthy was worse - he never seemed to stop a cross coming over.
We need a replacement though Cavare isnt good enough at this level never mind should we manage to go up

I didn't imagine we would miss Kenny as badly as we are doing. The results have not been too bad without him but his absence leaves a big hole that no one seems to be able to fill. McGeehan would be the obvious candidate but, apart from the odd snatches, we have seen very little to be confident about him. Maybe it will all click into place for him but, for now, he's struggling.
