New member here. Lurked for long enough and I hope I can contribute something to the collective pool of knowledge and informed debate I have views on the club, my home town, and life in general. I like to show respect and hope I earn it from others, even those who disagree with me. So here's me: First Game: Barnsley 1:0 Workington 06/02/1973 gate: 2096 West Upper (my dad was a mate of Eric Winstanley's) Face it, we can moan now but its been a journey - thankfully mostly an upward trend Why Darfield138: I'm from Darfield originally, the 138 is a small tribute to 138 lads from my village who gave all in 1914/1918 Favourite ever game: Feb 1998 FA Cup Man Utd 1: 1 Barnsley (in the lions den we stared the lion in the eye) Favourite player: Cant pick, best five: Mick Butler (I was 9 he was my hero) /Glavin/Redfearn/Watson/Hignett Hate: People from Barnsley who support a different club. What is wrong with you?? and money ruining our great game Likes: A good debate (with mutual respect) Helping people get justice (those who know me, know what that means) Favourite quote: "If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room" (the reverend)
Loving that reply my scots friend (presuming and hoping I am your friend). If you crossed all three in some bizzare experiment, you might not be too far away
"a bit of a hit man" is intriguing. Not a fully fledged hit man? Just blowing a left leg off perhaps. Or maybe just the left leg of the hit man himself. I think we should be told.
Okay ... it's a forum, was expecting some debate on favourite game and favourite player, you've picked up on something else. Legally I can't go into it. Look at my quote, I have lived on the edge. I was prompted to finally join after a guy posted on here about taking someone to court for a legitimate debt that was his living. I wanted to help him. I'd help someone from Barnsley who found themselves in a similar hole and have done previously, particularly where they are fighting the man (ie GOV or better still some big **** bag big company - currently helping two people sue Go skippy - hideous company run by aaron banks)
No Mate, no need. I have in the past. Hit someone and the pain is fleeting. Exercise your legal rights, it lasts longer. I've totted up and in the last ten years (when I retired from my day job) I've sued either in my own name or helped people sue successfully at least 22 orgainsations...including EE , Santander, Carphone Whorehouse (special mention for them - *******). During such activities I have developed a special and complete admiration for Barnsley Council Social services (They should all be made to read the Road to Wigan Pier by George Orwell until they can recite it verbatim)...great people
Mmmm. starting to get what you mean. I have lived a few lives, some of which I cant go in to. One comment seized on. If you were a friend of mine you would know that i'd fight like a tiger for your rights if the government or a big company had ripped you off. That's just the way I'm wired. The best I hope for is a bottle of makers mark bourbon as a gift if i help someone. The last one was from a single mum who faced eviction from a rogue landlord who ended up with six months free rent and £2k compensation
Hello, good evening, and welcome. Originally a Wombwell lad, myself, but educated in Darfield at Snape Hill J&I, then Foulstone. Get your point about folk supporting teams from 'other towns' too. Think my Dad tried to raise me as a Leeds fan (back then, Barnsley were Div.4, Leeds were challenging for Europe) but could never not support my hometown team, after all you wouldn't want to walk home from Leeds or Sheffield on a school night after a cup match that went to extra time, would you?
Good evening Oakwellian. I will draw some strength from that. Is this board a collection of people with a mutual interest in our great club from all walks of life or a clique with a scathing cold shoulder?? Came here in good faith and not feeling the love
This is more like it. Evening julian, a foulstone victim myself too. My dad did take me to Leeds but we saw a stoke fan get kicked within an inch of his life. Didnt like leeds (we went in the scratching shed a couple of times) my dad was mates with Eric Winstanley who gave us some free tickets. Me and my brothers (and my grandad - who didnt even like football, said we should support barnsley) never looked back mate. Nowt against the owls from sheffield, they're just doing what we do- but if you're from barnsley ... support barnsley
Yep totally. Like some scotch aswell, singleton my current fave within reason.. but do like the makers mark. In 1981 my great uncle (dear departed and a DSM from world war two who lived in ardsley) toasted our promotion with a 25 year old speyside malt...he went every august to spey to flyfish..man i've been chasing that taste ever since LOL
Nope mate Last person to be hanged was in the mid sixties, my first barnsley game was in the mid 1970's when i was 9 years old.
