Check Out the AMRC University of Sheffield, Probably 15+ buildings, Boeing, Rolls Royce, McClaren, EU funded, just up the road, training centers etc
We're losing out to the tune of £9 billion a year.Surely they would have been UK funded if we hadn't poured so much money into the EU? As for EU funding - it's made a lot of millionaires. Look at the EU funded empty warehouses all over the place. Companies get grants to build them in an enterprise zone. Business moves in till the cheap rent runs out and they sod off to Ireland or wherever the next cheap lease is.
More bully threats from the EU.... https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/brexi...kick-out-uk-citizens-in-no-deal-brexit-plans/
And you approve of £2bn to the DUP and £4.2bn (yes billion) in disaster, emergency, crisis costs to "prepare" for a no deal exit? But £9bn isn't just a cost. It's just sad we can't quantify trade deals that have been a benefit of membership. The tax takes from doing business in the UK through easy set ups and frictionless trade and the taxes taken courtesy of free movement. I don't see a cost, I see membership. But of course, finding such data is very difficult when the backdrop of the tories for generations has been to criticise the Eu at every turn. No wonder we're struggling to find an ally, as well as having no eye for detail at all on our side. And yes, lots of millionaires... like the A4E owners residing in north Derbyshire who benefitted to the tune of millions by packaging EU funding as training to get shut of it without any checks or scrutiny as to what the money was being spent on. What about James Dyson too? He does love a good offshore business does our James. I'm not sure why the EU are blamed for trying to help businesses. Surely seed funds, crowd funds, bank funds and personal capital all have to come in for equal criticism? I mean if we don't want businesses to settle and reside in the UK? I'm not sure what we'd all do then mind you, but its one approach.
As an ex-pat living in Italy I can confirm that that is absolute nonsense. Spain and Italy for example have already confirmed that settled resident status expats will be unaffected. Besides, mass forced deportation of UK expats would breach many International laws and would be also be discriminatory by allowing US, Australian, Russian expats, to name but a few, (not to mention migrants arriving from the African continent) to remain. Scaremongering twaddle. The EU has no direct control over migration rules for non-EU citizens (which UK passport holders would be, post Brexit) Each individual state has control over that. (Think about UK and how current EU FoM legislation only allows unilateral migration controls over non-EU citizens).
Oh FFS I dispair We are leaving the EU - they are no longer under any obligation to give us preferential treatment. You may as well say that Barnsley FC are bullies to all those who dont renew their season tickets forcing them to pay to go to games And the forceably kicking out of expats is just a straightforward lie. If the FOREIGN owned Sun are so biased that they report a story of the EU trying to mitigate the effects of us just walking away as Bullying you have to ask what their agenda is
we cant guess if the funding would have come by other means, the FACT remains they were and are EU funded. I try not to believe things printed on the sides of buses, it tends to be misleading
Are you sure about that?? I have a friend fairly high up in Huddersfield University and they've done something similar with railways (there railway engineering lectures are beamed back to China as they can't get enough Chinese students on courses - hard to believe when you look at our railways but true) and it didnt involve the EU
I can't comment on its current guise, but the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Sheffield started off as NAMTEC, which was a high end metal engineering training organisation. I knew the head guy there and he ran through his plans for expansion. It's well over a decade ago but the starting point certainly benefitted from Obj1 funding and was pitching for Obj 2 funding. They'd been talking of Boeing coming on board for over a decade and much of it was based on skill transferance and funding for their premises. I believe the size was hugely scaled back, but I'd be surprised if for 50ish people they were aiming for, they'd spend millions and millions of their own money to house them.
loads of ********.i was not being condescending to our european neighbours and nowhere have i even implied i feel (to use your own phrase) superior, you sir retaliated with your condescending remark after one specific post i raised, like i say you were completely wrong, so badge it however you like. when i put swing i meant to put overall majority,i'd just got caught up in your attempt to try and trivialise the leave votes majority when you were carping on about swings,my fault, sorry.
Parliments website gives some better indication. In the 2014 to 2020 EU spending round, most funding was for regional development and agriculture. However, research projects could apply for direct funding on a competetive basis, depending an competing aims and co-finance available or loans from the ECB. As this was the only EU wide project in this field (the concept I think is unique and those behind it have my upmost respect) it is possible that there was some EU funding. However, I think the central argument would still remain that this is something (given a level playing field on state aid) the UK Gvt would have funded. My argument with the EU is that firstly we are net contributors and secondly it has rules which have restricted state aid even in the case of industries facing a one off crisis not of their own making, such as the chinese cheap steel fiasco. One year later the withdrawal of chinese subsidies (reported to be up to 200%) returned most EU steel makers to competetiveness but it was too late for Redcar (and very nearly Port Talbot) which had shut down. The EU generally seems sceloritic in their response to anything, perhaps a symptom of having 28 disperate members some of whom are opportunistic and wont act in the common good unless they are given a sweetner
Apologies that should have quoted Danny Wilson's Love child post about the AMP in Sheffield. Dan, if ever we meet I'll buy you a pint. I'm not picking on you but I like a reasoned debate and you seem to be providing one. We should be in parliment mate LOL
loads of ********, carping, you sir, attempt to try and trivialise. I think we'll draw a line under it there, Merry Christmas.
