Excellent. Really come through that slightly rocky patch and showing his best form. Looks far more assured coming for crosses. Quick distribution.

Well done Adam. Would like to see a new contract ASAP. Very good L1 keeper who can get better.

To be fair last season he made some **** ups but it didn't help that the 1st preffered center back pairing were Lindsay and McDonald, then Lindsay Jackson, then back to Lindsay McDonald, then McDonald was never to be seen again after been subbed at reading, then Lindsay pinnock, then pinnock broke his toe in training, matt mills joined morais came chopped and changed even more. All the chopping and changing didn't help him.

He would get a championship team and a bigger pay packet even if he isn't starting every week. His agent is probley advising him to do that.

I have to strongly disagree and with alot of what else is said on this thread. If I wee to rate Davies out of 10 on his ability as a goalkeeper it would have to be a 3.
Shotstopping pretty good - but lets be fair alot of goalkeepers are decent shotstoppers - at the end of the day they are the only ones allowed to use their hands.
When it comes to positioning, coming for crosses, command of his area and distribution at times he is woeful and has ample games at this and a higher level to improve upon this.
Look at the number of times the defender is willing him to come for the ball but instead he ends up in no mans land and the defender clears as theyve not had a shout - he cant command his area let alone the entire pitch being our captain and all that.
His time to kick on was after we got promoted and he did reasonably well but then has regressed.
He is not good enough for me and we desparately need a new goalkeeper as he has been on easy street too long (Which could also be a factor in his lack of development and propgression).
Another factor that potentially runs deeper is that when PH left he took all but Sedgewick and Vaughn from the backroom staff - the former being a loyal BFC member - the latter possibly because he wasnt/isnt upto scratch-these are just opinions but appreciate they might not be popular.

All in all I feel Davies has lost us far more points than he has won us and for me is a liability. He seems a nice enough chap and all that but he needs to shape up considerably

The stats don’t back your opinions up.

Have to strongly disagree with most of that. Watch the highlights, or better still the whole match, from luton and you’ll see Davies is back to his best form. Which is easily top end L1 & would say it’s unlikely there is a better keeper in this league. He’s quicker off his line, more dominant under crosses and his shot stopping, as it always has been, is top top class.

Will agree he went through a rocky spell, and as with any keeper it’s a lonely position to get yourself out of poor form. However huge credit to Davies - he’s now in the best form I’ve seen since we signed him.

If Jack Walton is still out for a while I would suggest signing another keeper, one that can really push Davies on further.

3 clean sheets out of 5 with plenty of massive saves over Christmas. Hope he keeps this form up.

Been much improved this season and is proving to be a good league one keeper. Clear that all the team deserve praise for the clean sheets kept this year though.

Its all a matter of opinion and his form has certainly got better of late but we have seen it all before. In GK terms he's still relatively young but its not acceptable that he has one step forward and then 2 steps back. As much has JM had his critics he didnt take long to work out we were lacking in this area.

A big part of a GK make up though is the command of the area and its evident that Davies really lacks this - until this is remedied then the captaincy should go to Mowatt. He is similar to a subbuteo GK whereby he can only manoeuvre in an arc shape.

He should be better than where he's at at present

As for the stats thats irrelevant to a large degree - he only had around 6 clean sheets last season. Also GKs can have a good game if they dont keep a clean sheet as they can kee a scoreline to a respectable level.

My judgement is on the fact that his only biggest quality is shot stopping - as is the case with alot of GKs. You need to look over his games where he could've come for the ball but didnt, didnt command his area when he could have that has resulted in a passage of play that was avoidable, his distribution where possession had been gifted cheaply and led to a passage of play where a goal was/couldve been scored.

As a point in question Loris Karius is in the top 20 of all time Liverpool cleansheet holders with a clean sheet rate of nearly 50% - Does this make him one of the best ever GKs or is it sometimes a case of the defence in front of them as well?

Shouldn't goals against also count for defence in front of him as well - being put under pressure when situations could have been better dealt with.

Stats don't always tell the story but his aren't bad at this level- was one of the best keepers last time as well. Maybe not at championship level but then again defenders weren't championship level last season as well.

My point is that all of this has come off the back of a clean sheets record and AD being heralded as some sort of mastercraftsman when the reality is this - he's an average GK at this level and shouldnt be offered a new deal on the strength of him not being good enough for a higher level of football. His performances this season havent been great I'm afraid and if the only stat that can be thrown up is the clean sheets then like you have just pointed out it doesnt tell the whole story.

I'll go a bit deeper on this - the 2 full backs (Pinillos and Cavare) have overall been very poor and I would say that it is as much of a reflection on the quality of finishing getting worse as the leagues get lower that is highlighted. Liam Lindsay hasnt had a great season and feel that he has been on easy street at times and switches off far too much - he should be murdering this division (Although I have noticed he seems to hold his back quite alot so I dont know if theres anything in that injury wise).
Were we to be shovelled up a division then the performances of Davies, Pinillos and Cavare and to some extent Lindsay would be more than highlighted on the lack of clean sheets and goals against column.

Personally I feel that a new GK coach is needed and fast as Davies hasnt progressed since the back end of the promotion season - not forgetting that we had the 2 best CBs in the division and 2 of the best arguably in the division above before we flogged them).
