Can you remember a time when someone scored from just outside the penalty area and it had everyone talking. And in my view these are the tactics that are contributing to us achieving a large percentage of the play but without actually scoring the goals that warrants such dominance. That is to say - have players been told to shoot within 40 or 30 yards of the goals when they should be driving further forward towards goal before having a shot on goal.
I don't think they're told just to shoot, but I do think sometimes we play too much football which enables the opposition to pack their box, and that's where we miss moore's height. Don't get me wrong, I love to see us pass the ball, but sometimes we need to miss out a few and get the ball forward more quickly, like for woodys chance yesterday.
Perhaps the tactic of long distance shooting is due to us getting more players in the penalty area looking for the second ball rebounds .
Not sure players are been told to shoot within 30 or 40 yards. Against peterbourgh 1st half we were playing some nice stuff passing it round their half round the edge of the d over to the wing and the back because they was no opening. People around me were getting frustrated saying put a ball in we did eventually it was cleared. I think certain players are told if you think you have a good opportunity from range don't be scared, if you don't shoot.... You don't score. I don't mind any player having a pop. Like already said the best reds sides I've watched have always had players who could score from distance redfearn,higgy,Connor....
The style and weight of modern football's makes it more conducive for players to strike from further out those of us of an age can remember Ronnie Radfords strike for Hereford on a ploughed field of a pitch and a far heavier ball thick with mud flying with great velocity into the net, I for one welcome these types of goal and attempts.
the thing is, if teams start shooting from greater distances then the defending side can be drawn out in an attempt to stop them, this in itself can bring about big gaps in their defence.
Been saying it all season, that's why our shot statistics are so high. Its artificially inflated due to our shoot on sight policy. A shot on goal isn't necessarily a chance created, and often it can prevent a chance being created as a pass to a player closer to goal and in space would have been the better option.
