So whilst it is clear we all have differing opinions on who we need to keep and who we can offload, I was wondering how people will feel if we struggled to keep hold of some of our best players this month? I think there are 4 or 5 potential outcomes for this window: 1. We stay relatively intact, maybe bringing one or two in to complement the squad and offloading some fringe players. 2. We sell the crown jewels and replace with inexperienced players who'll need time to gel, as we have seen in the past. 3. We sell and replace virtually like for like. 4. We sell and bring in decent loans with a view to rebuilding our squad once hopefully back in Championship. 5. We sell one or two big players and don't replace. What do you think will happen?
Some will go, some will come, some will profess the end is nigh and some will see an opportunity for new heroes. repeat.
We're fools if we we let our chance to bounce straight back to the Championship go so not 2 , 4 or 5. Personally seeing how Luton , Sunderland and Portsmouth are doing option 1 is the 9nly real choice.
Have to agree, Helen - Option 4 may soften the blow slightly if we did get some ridiculous money for likes of Moore and Potts, but I personally feel the owners would be bonkers if they repeat what's happened before. They passed the summer test, crossing fingers they do the same this window.
It was bad enough losing players in January 2017 when we were in the championship, but to do it again in league one would make us a complete laughing stock. Nowts happened yet, apart from rumours reported online, so I'm not getting too carried away with things. Unless players and their agents are really pushing for moves away, I can't see what the club has to gain by weakening our squad and diminishing our chance of promotion. Making a profit on players should be a bi product of success, not instead of it. I know the owners haven't been here long, but surely they're not oblivious to what's happened before, and that they need to avoid it happening again, so soon. There must be people at the club advising them? We'll have to wait and see.
Would love to know Daniel Stendels thoughts on it. Just when we started to appear to be getting into a decent rhythm it looks like the team is going to be disrupted. You can’t build a successful team whilst removing key components of it.
I think this window will provide a clearer picture of what the owners' intentions are. I'm not sure how much pressure we had from other clubs circling in summer but will be interesting to see how it all unfolds this month. I think another repeat of 2017 would be too much to take for some fans though if that were to happen again.
I guess it is all rumour at this stage but yeah it doesn't look too promising. We need to continue this momentum we have built.
I just can't see it. It would be a complete disaster - not just for the results on the pitch but for the fans' belief in the new regime.
I honestly don’t understand why we are selling 3 days into the window. Can only assume it must be a minimum fee release clause that’s been met.
Hopefully we aren't, but the news coming from Giddings seems quite specific and he has been fairly reliable in the past from what I've seen?
. I’d agree with that. Would be a bit bizarre of the new owners to be selling so early in the window. Unless there is plenty lined up & still would expect a big fee for Potts. He’s so important to us in League 1 - drives the whole team forward, creates and scores goals. This is the 3rd window of the new regime. We’ll see their intentions or ambitions here in my opinion. Interesting to see Pompey, Peterborough and Doncaster already made signings to improve their team or squad.
Im not sure if anyone else thinks so but i fully expect the owners and scouts have been working hard making a list of players they would like to sign in the eventuality that our best players leave. I know its probably against what most of you think but i believe they will be very prepared for any eventuality.
I'd like to think so too, but a lot go through at the last minute. If we are selling anyone it needs to happen now and not on 31st or whenever it shuts.
I agree, i dont particularly want any of the first team players to leave, and if a huge offer comes in and we accept it, then it should be now rather than end of month.
I’m glad you’ve said this. Your history on here of being completely useless when it comes to predictions of any kind makes me really confident that neither 2 or 5 will happen.
