Why do you think they bought us in the first place? They liked the model. Buy young, improve and sell for profit. It’s not hard to grasp.
Exactly this - I thought that was pretty obvious! Hope we got over 2m in which case it’s good business
I can’t speak for the first poster but I’m fully behind the strategy but you don’t sell important first team players mid-season. If we get promoted & lost him & got time to bring replacements in & integrate them like Angus replacing Mawson then that’s fine but this isn’t.
See, this is what I was holding onto too. Sell the odd one for a decent fee, reinvest, keep building, and maybe we get a shot at the Prem. But nope. Cash in straightaway and the cycle of 5hite continues ad nauseum.
We haven’t cashed in. We persuaded him to stay in the summer. He agreed and a sell on clause was put in his contract. £1.5m which has just been activated.
Difference is the old owner had to balance the books accordingly, whilst investing his own money in the academy, to ensure we remained stable financially. He didn’t have enough money to invest significant amounts in the squad. I know plenty didn’t like that, and understand the frustration, but I always felt he was acting in the best interest of the club. Not to make money for himself. The new owners have the capital, not to “go crazy” but to ensure we can at least keep our assets. They have shown their intentions by selling a key member of a team pushing for promotion, who had 18 months(plus an option) left on his contract for a small profit in the grand scheme of things. The new owners clearly want short term profit. Promotion is not necessarily important to them as long as the books show profit being made. Oh well. We’ll wait and see. But GG’s statement on Brad going makes me more dispondant than any other I’ve heard since these new owners took over. I didn’t expect us to flog an important player a few days into the window. Just bizarre.
What’s the alternative? Find someone who’s prepared to make a significant loss on their investment? I bet they’re queuing up to take over. Have you got a spare £20 million?
What do you mean?, The owners of our foot club have had one full transfer window they lost one player Bradshaw and brought in Woodrow (and I know who I would like to be in my team). At the start of the season these owners wanted to play a certain style of football so went for a coach that could facilitate that style. Are they now receiving money to bring the players that are championship standard because let's be honest Potts and Bradshaw were not last year. I have said it before on here and I will say it again these are not our former owners We have to trust them and if they are wrong then we will have our chance to have our say at a later date.
Two big city clubs in higher divisions. We’re not going to find anyone who’s prepared to bank roll us, unless they’re a fan. PC didn’t have the funds to bank roll us long term and had to try and make the club sustainable so a buyer could be found. The only buyers even remotely interested are not the sorts of buyers who are prepared to bank roll us.
So in the summer we could have kept Potts for another three years and he wouldn't have a say in the matter. Yet we decided to sneakily give him a new contract that wasn't publicised that if he stayed for the first half of the season would mean he could leave in a future transfer window for a fraction more than what we paid for him?
Are we just going to be a club who sells our best players to who ever comes knocking first forever? Thought with the new owners we might change and show some back bone but nothings changed. Lets hope we have a better replacement than Potts in the works or we may aswell write this season off. Wheres the ambition?
Given its only the 3rd day of the window, I think we should give it a bit of time. I agree it doesn't look good, especially in light of our last fire sale, but I'm going to keep my powder dry for a bit and see what happens over the next month.
