Both went some way to explaining the dynamics of the transfer window, specifically at BFC. Winkler said that we don't want to make wholesale changes and wouldn't expect to see us lose many players...but that we could lose some. He also said that selling Bradshaw enabled us to bring in 3 players. I'm guessing that was Woodrow (great signing), Styles (young but huge potential) and Mike Bahre (proving to be a good signing). He said that we're looking to build a stronger squad overall. Dougall said that January is a crazy month and the players laugh when they read some of the rumours, but they understand that's how football works and that they have to work hard regardless of the links. Seemed to suggest that players understand that some may make moves (for various reasons) but that they all turn up every day and train hard to win for this team. If we use the Potts money to bring in two players who are of the same calibre as Woodrow and Bahre I'll be quite happy. I just hope the period of time it takes them to adjust doesn't hamper the season.
My main concern (and btw sounds like we have received decent money for potts) is the replacement. We have just sold a tried and tested div 1 player.....who has goals and assists....now we have to replace him....hopefully with someone who comes in and have an impact......not some 19 year old....who may take 9 months to bed in......let's hope we have someone to come in....Or the momentum is lost.
That’s true. Potts was the only player at the club that could pick the ball up in his own half and drive the team forward. Against Charlton he scored one - and drove the team forward before laying the ball off to Thiam to score the other. So we need a like for like replacement - the club cannot wait for someone to bed in - that wait could easily cost us promotion. Are we likely to get a replacement that beds in immediately - I doubt it. Consequently our chances of promotion have just been reduced.
When will people be told bahre is rubbish and not up to this league never mind a potential step up in summer. Some right dumplings on here.
I concur about Moncur. He's been unlucky not to play more this season. With Dougall back to mop up when he runs out of puff he'll be fine.
There are many reasons why a player may get picked to start, or not, as the case may be. You said Potts was the "only" player who can drive the team forward - a specific aspect of a player's ability. But you were in my opinion wrong, whether Moncur gets picked for the team or not.
I thought Dougall might have aboriginal blood in him, but a bit of research shows that his Mum is Thai.
For twenty minutes, yes. Potts was a 90 minute player. Thiam is more of a 70 minute one. McGeehan maybe is the man they'll use in that position. I'm not sure we will see a direct replacement as such.
Has an interesting mix of roots does Dougall. A half Thai, half Scottish Aussie, whose name is so Scottish you'd expect him to have been born with a kilt on. Ditto Angus McDonald.
That is an option, although to keep a player that is out of contract in the summer to play 20 minute cameos occasionally seems a bit of an indulgence.
"20 minutes" is a fable. Though if you say it often enough it gets adopted. Moncur can drive us forward. For enough of a game to keep him. Not all the game though. He does not possess the lungs of Potts. But there have been many posts on here in the past bemoaning Potts' idleness too. Even when in possession. Not me btw.
