I’ve posted about this before - I think it was after Sam Winnall had been sold to Sheffield Wednesday.
I’ve looked for that post but can’t find it.
But under the circumstances I think it’s worth repeating.

Barnsley supporters will accept players being sold if there is a valid reason.
But there are Three Red Lines that should NOT be crossed by the owners when they are considering selling players.

    1) Do NOT sell players on the cheap.
This was a regular occurrence under Patrick Cryne - but I’m sure the present owners have a better understanding of the value of players.

    2) Do NOT sell players to Leeds or the Sheffield clubs.
There are thousands of football fans living in the Barnsley District that support these clubs - even though they have no other connection to these cities.
Barnsley is in competition for supporters with these club. Selling players to them greatly undermines Barnsley supporters.

    3) Do NOT sell first team players while in the middle of a relegation or promotion battle.
Again this is something that happened under Patrick Cryne which had a detrimental impact on Barnsley Football Club.
I expected (as I believe most Barnsley fans did) that selling first team players at such vital times would no longer take place now that the new ownership was in place.
The Brad Potts sale shows this is not actually the case - and this has come as a complete surprise and shock to many Barnsley supporters.

As I said previously - Barnsley supporters will accept the sale of players if there is a valid reason - but the club sits 4th in the division in January and we have just sold the best attacking midfielder at the club - the only player at the club that is able to drive forward out of defence.
A player that has been recognised as a Championship level player - hence Preston buying him.
So no matter which player/s we bring in now - there will always be that question of ‘how good would the team be with these new players if we would have also kept hold of Brad Potts.

Many Barnsley supporters lost trust in Patrick’s Crynes ability to keep a team together. That trust in the ownership was starting to come back.
The owners have just scored a massive own goal with the sale of Brad Potts.

Fingers crossed this decision doesn’t cost Barnsley promotion.
Because if we fail to get promotion then Barnsley supporters will look back at the January transfer window.

You post the exact same thing every single day, in a brand new thread, worded very slightly differently.

Just to keep your name at the top of the board.

Grow the **** up, you absolute cockwomble.

And yet he does it without telling someone to "Grow the **** up, you absolute cockwomble" which suggests to me that he's more grown up than the person who does resort to such a childish insult.

He's also bang on with what he has just posted.

That was deliberate irony. I appreciate it probably didn’t come off like that, though.

I’m just pissed of that every time I come on here, I see ‘Young Nudger’ and the exact same thread, making the exact same points, with the EXACT SAME silly capitalisations...................... and ellipsis.

I love how you keep saying many Barnsley fans will or won’t accept this that and the other, when most of the time it’s just your opinion and you provide no evidence. Express your opinions/s Of course, but you always seem to claim that they are shared by the majority of supporters when you don’t know that as a matter of fact.

I may not have written it the same way. The underlying points I also do agree with

Well ..... I get that opinion from talking to others and looking at what’s been posted on here.
You can’t say that people have been happy with the Brad Potts sale - what I’m doing in my initial post is relating this sale to previous sales.

And although some are already saying I’m repeating myself - I’m not.
I’m linking the Winnall sale to the Potts sale - and asking - ‘I thought those lessens had been learnt’?
    They haven’t.
We have moved on - by keeping the squad together after relegation.
But we haven’t moved on totally.
We are still prepared to sell at the WRONG TIME.

Here we go again. How can you be so idiotic? Do you actually think it’s as black and white as someone has made an offer on our player, reject or accept?
In terms of the Potts deal I can see only 3 or 4 possible scenarios,
1:a gentleman’s agreement in the summer to let him go in jan if a sufficient bid comes in.
2: a new contract in the summer on higher wage but with a release clause to keep him
3: the club needs the money after relegation to offset the financial losses
4: most easily replaced asset. Pinnock, Lindsay and Moore, how easy and affordable would it be to replace them.

Do you want the new owners to run the club like other foreign owners have such as villa and forest which has led to near administration and constant change.
The club have outlined the sustainable model of buying young and selling on for profit. That’s exactly what they have done with Potts so how are they not letting us know whats happening.
It’s disappointing and disheartening at times but that’s how it’s got to be.

Did you not see in my initial post:
......... ‘Barnsley supporters will accept players being sold if there is a valid reason’.

You have some valid reasons there.
    But they are all speculation.

The club have come out and told us that the model for the club is sign young players who can hopefully be sold for profit.
In my eyes and from the statement from the club that is exactly what has happened.

You don’t know yet if it’s the wrong time, the only way you will know that is at end of season and maybe by end of transfer window, they may have a signing lined up that would take Potts place in the first team, that they believe will help them get promoted easier, so they cashed in on a player they felt not capable of playing in Championship.

It’s the sold for profit thing I don’t understand in relation to this sale.
I’ve said this before on here.
Generally - Premeir League players sell for more than Championship players.
Championship players sell for more than 1st Division players.
Therefore shouldn’t the owners be increasing the chances of achieving promotion - and by doing so increase the value of most/all of the team ???

The Brad Potts sale reduces the chances.
Spoiling the barrel for a penny worth of tar.

It’s the wrong time - not because we won’t get promotion.
It’s the wrong time - because it reduces our CHANCES of getting promotion.

You say ....... Cashing in on a player the club doesn’t believe is able of playing in the Championship.

Brad Potts is already a Championship level player.
