The here and now is a great team to watch and possible promotion so I can't see how the model lacks ambition.
So which model or strategy should we adopt? Again, happy for you to explain a strategy another club uses that we could use instead.
I'll wait and see what the rest of the month holds. If everyone stays I'll admit I was wrong and my misgivings were misguided.
Well I’m not sure about the negative Nigel bit but your right it’s all about opinions but I would say most opinions would point to the morais appointnent but I have no proof of that other than talking to a lot of fellow reds at matches, away days family and friends. We should have been safe long before the Derby game imo . Not saying the staff we had were world beaters but we could have done enough with the staff to beat Bolton,Burton etc but that’s my opinion again . The fact the players had a meeting to try to work out what tactics were reqd from Morais and the ******** he spoke in interviews and the repetitiveness of the word believe when all around were scratching their heads . Yes your right it’s opinions
We could use the strategy of OGC Nice and turnover players of a higher calibre regularly and still make a profit.
That’s what we are aiming for but you can’t do it straight away . We can’t buy 10 million pound players in the third tier then expect to get 15 million . The strategy as explained above is aiming to everything you’ve just said we can’t have it now it tajes work
I agree with the plan, however that plan needs to have a protection to it in terms of limiting the number of outgoings in one transfer window. We cannot rebuild a third or half of the team each window and expect us to build on what we have, that will tultimately end up with us falling down the league. So this season we need to hold firm, secure promotion and then build from there.
We weren’t in a relegation place when Hecky left . Morais got us there as I said we were a bottom half championship team turned into relegation under morais
I remember dropping into the bottom three after the 1-1 draw at home to Sheff Wed under Paul Harsley.
Aye, we are doing what others are and more clubs are latching on to it hence the standards of those on offer that we may be able to attract are lower or coming from lower down the footie pyramid with greater competition for the better ones.
How is that strategy different to what we're already doing? If im reading what you have written right you're saying 'sign better players and sell them for higher profit' - surely strategically that is exactly what we're doing but just on a smaller scale? I've looked at a few of Nice's signings in the last few years and compared them with ours (Taken purely from Transfermarkt) 2014/2015 Nice Spent: 1,30 Mill. Barnsley Spent: £254k Nice Sold: 7,40 Mill. Barnsley Sold: 0 2015/2016 Nice Spent: 4,10 Mill. Barnsley Spent: £180k Nice Sold: 14,00 Mill. Barnsley Sold: £1.26m 2016/2017 Nice Spent: 15,25 Mill. Barnsley Spent: £2.29m Nice Sold: 15,80 Mill Barnsley Sold: £12.13m 2017/2018 Nice Spent: 26,30 Mill. Barnsley Spent: £5.75m Nice Sold: : 27,50 Mill Barnsley Sold: £4.32m 2018/2019 Nice Spent: 28,00 Mill. Barnsley Spent: : £338k Nice Sold: : 61,70 Mill. Barnsley Sold: £1.67m Total Spent in 5 years: Nice: 74.95 Million Euros Barnsley: £8.812 Million Total Received: Nice: 126.4 Million Euros Barnsley: £19.38 Million So apart from doing things on a bigger scale, I'm struggling to see how their model is something that should be followed, yet ours is a 'fire sale'? You're aware that FFP rules mean we can't spend 28 million in one season right? In your opinion they are doing things well, yet Barnsley are just selling off assets? You're going to have to elaborate on this, as the figures dont match what you are saying.
A very thoughtful thread Isn’t there quite an issue at Nice that the owners are wanting to take out of the club the player trading profit? The approach of generating profit from player sales only moves the club forward if the profits are reinvested. We wait until the end of the window and the following months to get a better idea of the owners’ strategy.
A decent argument mate but why can't we retain our talent and watch them here. As John Meynard Keynes said: "In the long term, we're all dead". I'd like to see us have a tilt at the premier league again in my lifetime rather than just a conveyor belt of talent that benefits other clubs
My point was that the conveyor belt is part of the journey. Each time we turnover players we sign others, but each time we also become financially stronger and therefore able to keep hold of our players in the future...or make more money when we sell them, meaning we can invest in better talent. Over a period of time this should lead to us establishing ourselves in the Championship and being able to have a tilt at the Premier League, in addition to increasing the value of the club (which may attract investors). The thing that strikes me is that fans use the term 'ambition', in business we call it 'risk appetite'. Ambition and risk are two sides of the same sword; as we've nearly gone out of existence on a number of occasions I'd rather we played the longer, less risky game than gambled with the future of something that is so pivotal to the local community.
Obviously we can't spend that much. You win can't be arsed going through everything with a fine tooth comb. Splitting atom so to speak to make a point. I'm just saying for example we sell Kieffer Moore for £5 million we try a little bit higher up the pyramid than FC United of Manchester or Yeovil for a replacement and spend a bit more too.
