I’m gutted for the same reasons but also think that we will miss him. Having him back from injury would have been like having a new signing with the run in ahead. We all know what he is capable of and for me he would have been in the starting XI. Stendel was not my preferred choice when appointed but has won me over. Can’t help though feeling disappointed with his handling of Isgrove and just bemused at our readiness to bolster the squads of our promotion rivals.
My understanding was the he had recovered from injury and was fit to play. Can’t see Pompey taking him if not. That’s why I find it crazy, now he is finally fit, to loan him to a rival! Never had the slightest worry about his attitude or motivation - he was an honest up and down non-stop little dynamo, good on the ball which he very seldom gave away. I’d be disappointed and a little worried were Stendel not to have been able to recognise his qualities and what he could have brought to the team.
Maybe they don’t know too much about him or don’t like the idea of an ex ‘scummer’ in their ranks. For me his departure ranks with that of George Williams in the unfathomable mysteries of recent times. Bizarrely, the 2 players who comprised our right flank in the cup winning promotion season. Look where that got us.
Yup, both still earning a living as professional footballers. Must be awful. Isgrove now at the side directly above us in the league and Williams, until injured a couple of weeks ago, ever present and excelling for MK Dons who are pushing for promotion into our league. I prefer to show players who have served us well a little more respect.
