still the owners have probably got around £3m in the bank since the start of the season with the sales of Bradshaw, Potts and Winkler compensation set against an outlay of say a million with Green, Woodrow and Miller. I really would have expected us to be investing more than we have done to be honest. That said if I were looking at Barnsley football club purely as an investment then not pushing the boat out to try and get back to the championship probably makes most financial sense. Would liked us to have been reinvesting that £3m into a couple of talented young lads that would make an instant impact
I’m pleased we’ve kept the nucleus of the side, I always hate the January window, maybe we will see more money spent in close season when we know which division we’ll be in
Seems like 200k is our ceiling. Does anyone know if we bid more than this for any player during this transfer window? How much did Green cost?
Weren’t the Woodrow and Bradshaw deals comparable in that we spent the money on Woodrow that we received for Bradshaw? We’ve got money for Moncur, who was going to leave for nothing come the end of the season. The Potts deal was a good apparently but when you take away the sell on clause and the reinvestment in Brown, is there really £3 million there? I don’t think so. I think the bids we’ve turned down for our key players is also a big positive. After all, Sunderland and Charlton have both lost their top scorers this window.
We bid 100k for that 21 year old lad Kerr at st Johnstone. We have a great chance of promotion I would just have liked to see us strengthen the squad instead we sold Potts and then moncur to Luton. And brought in a 19 year old from non league and green from yeovil neither have played at this level before. It took united 6 seasons to get out of this league you don't always get opportunitys like we have now and if we don't go up I expect the team will break up the bids will come for pinnock lindsay moore and thiam in the summer Davies is out of contract. Disappointing imo.
Are you factoring in the lost revenue from being relegated in your sums earlier? My own take on it is that we've had two weeks of meltdowns and flapping from the fan base about how these owners just want to sell the assets, but the reality is we've only let one first team player leave, a fringe player leave, and another completely surplus to requirements. We've re-invested some of that money in Green and Miller, so we're looking to the future, and as someone pointed out January isn't the best time to be investing when you're trying to ensure the club runs itself with no investment.
I think you're right. This season is massive opportunity to go up, and if we don't, I can see it being very difficult to keep hold of our better players as their contracts wind down.
As the time passes. This window appears not to be one of exuberance. Hope I am wrong & GG will part with a top signing from left field. And all of the regular starting 11 stays. Still smoke coming out the chimney & lights on, or normal form?
Lost a fantastic CEO, assistant manager, a first team player and strengthened 2 promotion rivals while bringing in 1 player likely to play in the first team. If you try to argue that is anything but disappointing when trying to mount a promotion push you’ve been gaslighted.
Think we all need to realise this is how BFC are going to be run going forward. Hence why it’s a no brainer that Gauthier went off to Nice. Our strategy can’t work long term.
Well kieffer and pinnock will still have 2 years left but if championship clubs come for them I can see them wanting away tbh. Davies will go if we don't go up despite what people think he isn't a bad keeper even if he goes and warms the bench in the championship he will get a signing fee and a better salary. Don't get me wrong I think We have a good 11 for this league but if injurys come were knackered.
How do you know how much impact Winkler actually had? Yes, he did the majority of interviews but none of us know how much of a loss he is. Strengthening 2 promotion rivals by giving them players who 1) only came on for the last 5/10 minutes and 2) was never even involved in the match day squad? Nah. Yes, I probably would’ve liked to see a couple of more players come in but I’m not disappointed with the window, particularly given the fact that we’ve kept our key players.
Disappointing for me. I thought we needed two quality additions at the start of the window. We've since lost Potts who I think needed replacing, then Moncur and Isgrove who probably didn't need replacing. So that's three players ready for the first team I felt we needed. We've got Green who may develop into a first team player and two lads for the development squad. Miller won't be here until next season. I still therefore feel we're two short and that's if Green steps up quickly. I feel we're taking a gamble that the current side will be enough to get promotion, rather than securing a couple of extra options to help our cause. Just praying Moore and Woodrow stay fit all season now and that our lack of wide options doesn't hold us back.
