Before John Digweed, OC & Verde and Steve Parry before Mint Club finally closes its doors next week. A sell out crowd of over 750 people attended and it went off incredibly well. Our little promotion company is going from strength to strength and next year we have our 5th Anniversary Parties based all over South Yorkshire and in Leeds. Well, here is my 1 hour warm up set for anyone interested in Dance Music.
Excellent stuff. Will be the soundtrack to my daughter's 8th birthday party on Saturday. Actually, it probably won't, but it would be good if it was.
Its not techno. I'd say its actually down your street. More melodic and floaty than my usual stuff. There's even a bassline or two, who'd have thought it!
Yep, it's definitely got a trancey edge to it. Obviously back in the day anything under 140bpm was considered too sedate, but nowadays 128 will do just fine! I can still dig the banging techno though. Just it's usually in the living room, or in my very grown up Volvo (the Harmon Kardon speakers are absolutely incredible).
Congratulations mate, good gig to get. Like the sound of it. I usually listen to more trance stuff but like this too. Made preparing lunch more enjoyable anyway
Yeah, I assumed it was around that . A far cry from my Gatecrasher days. Even Sasha and Digweed mixes from that era sound so fast now.
I posted every Essential Mix Digweed has ever done on the Hush Hush page leading up to Friday. Year 2000 Jesus H Christ. Must have been topping 135
Sasha at GC Summer Sound System 2000 is also insanely fast. Thing is, at the time it didn't actually sound that pitched up, probably because Ferry Corsten was on before him! This must be in excess of 135bpm 1997 to around 2001 is definitely my favourite Sasha and Digweed era.
You should see Digweed now mate, proper bangs it out. He was in Moscow and St Petersburg last week before ours. Best DJ on the planet
I couldn’t disagree more. Both Sasha and Digweed were brilliant at building and programming sets. I’ve been following them around the world since 1993. No better than them. I was lucky enough to take over the decks from him last year, the biggest moment of my life. This year I stuck myself first to set the night up and equally enjoyed it. Hoping to have both Sasha and Digweed next year. Watch this space
I still go clubbing regularly. Choose my nights wisely. Me and the wife (a new dance music recruit) go to Sonus festival in Croatia every year. 5 days of techno in the sun. At nearly 43 I’m still going strong. No drugs, just love the music. I’m so glad I got back into it after a 10 year haitus. If you’d have said I’d own a label only 5 years ago I’d say, that’s bonkers. Let alone 3 years of Digweed and actually playing in the lineup would have been absurd. This time last year I woke up to my Facebook going wild after Hernan Cattaneo player my track to 10,000 people in Argentina. You are never too old, and there’s actually only our age group keeping clubbing going in the UK. Give it a blast at our next one, a week in crutches is only a small price to pay
I didn't even realise he was here, so either it wasn't very well promoted (very possible) or a mixture of family and generally being extremely busy meant it just completely passed me by. Pity. I also missed Bonobo playing in a really small venue not long back as I only found out about it a couple of days before and didn't have time to make childcare arrangements. Plus it was on a Wednesday, which could have meant a very harsh Thursday in work (I'm just talking about the late night now, nothing else!)
I spoke to Diggers about his trip, he says he loves it there, its crazy, but utterly mesmerising. I find the fact that I can even relay that story bonkers. I told him I have a mate in Russia (You) and you were a DJ, and he had to go all the way to Russia to find a wife called Sasha (True Story!)
On my stag do, one of my mates made John and Sasha masks. They were made from an old copy of DJ Magazine, and obviously were not pictures of me and my wife! Randomly, my first ever night out in St Petersburg was at a large and quite crap indoor rave where Sasha was playing. He was pretty good, but it was at the expo centre, where the acoustics were atrocious. Plus with this being Russia in 2003, every expense had been spared on the sound system. Bringing Sasha over won't have been cheap, and no doubt 75% of the budget for the "optional" extras such as decent speakers ended up in someone's pocket. The result - Sasha playing in a massive hangar, with a sound system that could have come from an Escort XR3i. The immense amount of free vodka I was given soon made me stop noticing mind.
hehe, I'm sure Sasha made up for it in 'other ways'. You need to come to one of nights mate. Last week was 1997 again but thats not just the music or our 40 year old clientele, it was the club. I'll miss it massively. Did you see the pictures on my page?
