I'm a little surprised about the lack of praise for our keeper today. He kept us level before half time with an outstanding save when their man was through one on one and then earned us a point with that penalty save. He was getting a lot of stick at the Oxford game from some of our umber but seems to attract few plaudits when he makes a positive impact on the result.
I thought he was outstanding, getting that point today could well be crucial. Bet he gets the MOTM votes.
He certainly earned his money today, he gets my vote for MOTM. Just a slight point, I am glad Pompey hadn’t done there homework as every penalty I have seen Davis face he dives to his right
Didn't go today but sounds like Davies had a very good game. I was very critical of his performance against Oxford and found it crackers that some thought he was motm that day. But has done ok since that game and made two crucial saves today. Hope he keeps it up.
Gets dogs abuse when he slightly misplaces a long ball and when he pulls off match winning or match saving saves they were just ‘routine’. He’s the best in this league, there are teams in the league above who’d benefit from having him. He will only turn 27 this summer. A baby for a goalkeeper. He must be offered a fair new deal and retained, to let him go for nothing would be a monumental disaster.
He has said he is waiting untill the season ends to decide on his future if we don't go up I think he will go.
His best performance for us? great save one on one with Bogle penalty save and comfortable throughout
Monumental disaster is probably a bit much, i wouldn't describe any of our players leaving that way. He's the only one still here from last time at this level largely I assume because no-one else wanted him. As you say keepers tend to peak later so I wouldn't write him off yet. Played a blinder yesterday and has been solid for the most part all season. He has also improved the speed he restarts play so that has been a positive too. Best in the league? I really wouldn't know as I only watch our games from this level, so not sure how I could make that judgment.
I didn’t just mean because of his quality and to play moving forward - but also to allow his contract to run down and leave for nothing would be a big mistake in my view. This isn’t a situation like Yiadom who was never going to sign a new deal - he could have been offered terms to stay by now. As it is he might have a better offer elsewhere. Up to the club, though I’d be more comfortable with Davies in goal at the start of next season than a youngster picked up from League two or an u23 side in Europe - and that is likely the market we’d shop in. I’ve seen all our games, full matches or longer highlights on ifollow and the home ones live in person, and I’ve seen none that I think are any better. Some decidedly ropey. I’ve also seen highlights/goals of the other games - not exactly highlighting the others to make an error every week but certainly showing frailties Davies doesn’t appear to have. My opinion is I’d not take any other from this division over him, he’s not likely to be at his peak for another couple of years or more, and that yes he had a wobble last season but showed in the year before that he’s a more than capable championship keeper. He was integral in the side that was near the championship playoffs and was broken up. I’m not saying he’s amazing or even that I’m a massive fan - just that for where we are as a club we will struggle to get anyone better, certainly not with his experience. I’m a little confused to be honest, as some people wax lyrical about Cavare, Pinnock, even Lindsay. All good players with great attributes, but all who have made errors or poor decisions leading to goals or good chances. How many errors has Davies made this season? Yes he could be better at dominating his six yard box on crosses and distribution - but he’s playing third tier football. If his all round game was faultless he wouldn’t be, he has made many good saves this season, conceded fewer goals and kept more clean sheets than most. Yet he gets criticised a lot, with little praise, it’s a bit unfair. If it was a new keeper we’d signed in the summer playing as he is, he’d be a fan favourite. Davies has done more than enough to win us around I reckon.
Not sure about the lack of praise part, he had 2000 people singing his name when players came over to us at the end. I’m guilty of being critical at times but yesterday he deserved all the praise he got. Can’t imagine how it feels having all your fans sing your name like that
That was a quality bit of confident keeping, where he rushed out and blocked the shot that came from Lindsay's mistake. And that's before I even talk about the pen save!!.
found this stats page.... hope this helps... I do not totally understand it mind. https://footystats.org/players/wales/adam-davies
Agree with the vast majority of that and as you say we would likely go out and get a young lad so it would be starting the process again. Is Davies good enough for the Championship? He wasn't last time, proof would be in the pudding but yes he's has done enough to deserve a shot at it.
It's almost like you forgot the season where he was 5th in the clean sheet table, the most saves made and the highest save percentage of any keeper.
