Stewards

Absolutely boring. People like you are what’s wrong with the fans. We’ve had a brilliant away win infront of the sky cameras and all you want to do is focus on negatives that’s not even to do with what’s happened on the pitch. Unfortunately there will always be people at the match that’s had a drink or got carried away and acted stupid. But honestly, Is it really that big a deal what’s happened, both sides in the wrong but surely common sense should prevail. The police are there with there cameras filming the behaviour and they will sort it.
Concentrate on praising the team

Yes it's that big of a deal! It makes me look like an hooligan, it makes me family ask me 'have you seen any trouble today' it makes my mum phone me worried in case I've been caught up in trouble, it puts my ticket prices up, it makes me look bad, makes me club look bad and makes my town look bad?

And it has **** all to do with how well Barnsley play because they aren't Barnsley supporters, they're scum criminals

 

Defend yourself, ok, but not by using a weapon.

I saw a steward hitting a lad on the head with what looked like a walkie-talkie.

 

Not been funny and I agree with what you say but do you think both party's could be in the wrong here? I've seen plenty on social media saying the stewards were very heavy handed. I spoke to a safety officer at oakwell a few seasons back about the seats in the top corner he said in that part of the ground they would try to avoid kicking people out as it could turn nasty (like it has here) they would video what they were doing wrong (smashing seats or in this case standing on them) then catch up with them after the game had finished or as they were leaving the ground. Common sense approach?

 

If I was being attacked he'd be getting hit with anything I had in my hand.

 

Not really trying to defend stewards. They shouldn’t have got involved in any fighting, but let’s be realistic about it. The problem came from some brain-dead ***** not understanding a straightforward request to stop doing something. And I sincerely doubt the stewards threw the first punches.

 

I'm sick of the idea that football hooligans can do anything they want and be allowed to carry on because if they are arrested or stopped they may get more violent. What sort of people do we associate with when that is the situation they put us in?

We wouldn't say the same thing if it was a man assaulting a woman. Just video it and deal later. A shoplifter, just video them and we'll do something later.

No defending that really. As there is no defending a steward hitting a disabled supporter who wasn’t even part of the original scuffling.

 

Don’t know about punches but they were 100% shoving people about first which aggravated the situation further

 

Why do some fans feel the need to behave like bell-ends at football.

 

I can't answer that but I do believe quite a few defend it to try to deflect their own guilt because they used to behave the same and are trying to avoid facing up to the realisation that they have blood on their hands in the death of 96 people

 

I can't get my head around why some always want to defend other fans even when it's clear they behaviour is out of order.

 

Wow. I really hope that isn’t a reference to hillsborough because that would be Uneducated at best or vile and disgusting at worst.

 

There does seem to have been an over-reaction by the stewards which has inflamed a minor incident. One steward is dragged by a colleague all the way out of the stand, not just out of harms way. The offender could have been apprehended later at a less volatile time i.e. when he went to the toilet or something. The police wouldn't have risked other people's safety when it's clear there would have been opposition. They often track stolen cars from a distance nowadays rather than getting involved in chases i.e. by helicopter. This guy could have been picked off later.

 

So everytime a young en is stood on a seat in the top corner of the ponty our stewards should go in all guns blazing and kick them out?
When I spoke to the safety officer at oakwell he just said things like flares, standing in gangways, drinking in seats wouldn't be dealt with by force as the incident would more than likely escalate and stewards or innocent people could get hurt. He said there are cameras all over oakwell filming and police have cameras people get picked up when leaving the game or when entering the next home game and evidence is on camera

 

That might well be the case, but I’ll refer you to my earlier post. Simple message to the fans - have a good time, and a sing-song and a jump about, but if a steward or a copper asks you to stop, just stop.

 

Yes stewards would never throw the 1st punch all lovely law abiding citizens.

 

No, of course not, but if they repeatedly ignore requests to stop and their mates come over all Green Street, then yes, forcibly remove them.

 

Why? Football hooligans prior to Hillsborough have blood on their hands as their behaviours ultimately left to the death of 96 people. Some people are scared to link the two because they wouldn't be able to handle the guilt
