Some good to read comments on their board https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/southend-united-v-barnsley.1464020/page-13
There are a few helmets posting in that thread too. One or two coming out with the predictable shi*e about how many Barnsley fans went to the game.
30,000 plus the 7,000,000 outside the ground who couldn't get tickets. Still better than the two fans we took according to one japs-eye on the Sunderland forum.
They get near on 30,000 at home every game (nearer 50,000 in the premier league) we get 11-12,000, plus they have loads of exiles down south. That's like us having a pop at Bury or Oldham for taking fewer fans than us to most places. Suppose they missed the 2,000 of us at Portsmouth last week.
It's not going to be as straightforward as either set of fans ( Sunderland and us) think. There's a few more twist and turns to come in my honest opinion. After today, we have six home games left and five away. In the sequence of home games we have lost away to Sunderland (2-4), Coventry ( 0-1) and Shrewsbury (1-3) whilst we beat Accrington (2-0), Fleetwood (3-1) and Blackpool (1-0) which means we got 9 points. In the sequence of home games we drew with Doncaster (1-1), Walsall (1-1) and Plymouth (1-1) and beat Bristol Rovers (1-0) to amass 7 points. For their part, Sunderland have to play five at home and seven away, plus they are away in the FL Trophy Semi next Tuesday to Bristol Rovers. Of the corresponding fixtures to play at home, their results away were as follows. Walsall (2-2), Coventry (1-1). They won at the Keepmoat (1-0) and lost at Burton (1-2) and Portsmouth (1-3) to amass 5 points. At home they beat us (4-2) Rochdale (4-1) and Southend (3-0) and drew with Wycombe (1-1), Fleetwood (1-1), Accrington (2-2) and Peterborough (2-2) and therefore got 13 points. Realise that games are not won on paper, but I think that we have marginally got the better run in.
This..... totally agree, this guy even slags his apparent own team at times. However, I’m convinced it is a Newcastle fan on the wind up, when looking back at comments he even posts whilst we are playing. No red would do that.
That boards an embarrassment just shows the entitled mindset Sunderland fans have. Bit like this one at times tbh.
I was reading that earlier. Made me chuckle. They're not bothered about us, but they have a 14 page thread about our game. Goes something like " I can see Barnsley slipping up at Southend today" "Yeah, they're a one man team and he's out for the season" "Haha! They're down to 10 - surely they will lose now" "****" "Maybe Southend could nick a draw" "Southend aren't even trying!" "They haven't taken many fans"
Guilty as charged. The last 2 seasons before this one were without doubt about the worst I have ever witnessed as a season ticket holder of almost 30 years. We still averaged over 27k last season I think but Christ it was depressing and a lot of regular not just casual supporters wrapped it in. I didn't but the mitigating circumstances were for 2 seasons we were beyond hopeless in every aspect of a football club. We went a whole calendar year without winning a home game, any club would see a drop off in support with that kind of run. There was a toxic atmosphere among the players. You had the ones left over from the Allardyce days and the batch brought in by Moyes - basically all his mates who were past it including players like Gibson who Moyes knew had alcohol problems but gave him a contract and then allowed him to reside at Ramside Hall Durham where you can basically get a drink whenever you like, what could go wrong lol. The majority of the players had packed in, many supporters took the view why should I bother if they don't. The owner had zero interest in the club and kept himself out of the way in America while he actively tried to sell the club. To be fair he came good by writing off more than £100m in debt as part of the sale to our new owners. Back the comments about crowds, I wouldn't read too much into what some lunatics say about this especially on our board, theres a million reasons why crowds fluctuate and you normally find the ones chucking these comments around are those who would jack it in if when the chips are down. Some result for you yesterday, I didn't know until after I got back from our game you were down to 10 as well. It's going to the wire this like and I really can't call it as someone could easily hit a short patch of poor form and be out of it. We have found a settled team now, have kept a couple of clean sheets in a row and are still scoring although another blank from our strikers yesterday. I was worried about Plymouth who were in good form but they were never in it and we should have really been out of sight by HT. A week on Tuesday is looking pivotal. We've Wycombe away before then as well which will be a tough test.
Thanks for that, Hope you continue to post your thoughts and opinions especially after our game on Tuesday week. Going to be squeaky bum time for us all these next few weeks.
Win, lose or draw I will be back to post. I normally wait 24 hrs or so to post anywhere as in my experience of our board, it is like a wild west saloon at throwing out time on new years eve after an all day happy hour and you don't get much reason or sense.
Wycombe was our low point this season. Yeah I know we shipped 4 at your place in a mad half hour, but we still played well and could maybe have had a point Wycombe are a horrible team who let you play in front of them, then try to nick the ball and lump it for their strikers to chase. You need to score early against teams like that, to upset their plan.
Yep they done us at home and took a point, spoiling tactics from the first minute, diving, time wasting, play acting the lot - mind you despite that we liked them as there supporters great craic and you had to give them respect for their effort and how they worked for their point. I agree, if we give them something to hang on to it will be difficult. Agree re your game here, you are the best side we've played and the score flattered us, mind you we could have had more as could you, it was a crazy game.
I play in the Sunderland & District Over 40’s League (imagine the Champions League but with a bit more shouting) and as you may imagine there are a stack of Sunderland fans playing (who’ve often made a comment or two this season when i’ve Turned up for the post match food/drinks in a Barnsley top). Generally there are just a good set of lads who feel very let down by their club in recent years. There’s the odd ‘delusional’ but on the whole they are decent. I do get the impression in recent weeks they are bricking it about us. It’s pretty clear that those who have followed our progress think we are a better team. For the very good reason that......we are! Whether we remain so without Moore.........
