Anyone think Sunderland might target Woodrow a week on Tuesday, they know Moore is out now for season and taking Woodrow out would almost certainly demolish our automatic chances leaving them to pounce.

I know it's cynical to think it but just thought it was a possibility

Yes. Just watching his finish again. Class.

He’s got loads to work on his all round game I think but has all the makings of a top championship striker

For our sakes then I hope we don’t go in hard on Grigg, we could really do with him keeping fit and playing every minute of the remaining games for Sunderland.

Every chance, yes. They have Pitbull Cattermole in their team and I would put money on him trying to kick Woodrow off the pitch

Of course teams will. It used to be Moore that tended to get targeted teams will do the same with Woodrow now. I’m sure he expects it though.

I can't honestly see it, due to his goalscoring record he will be closely marked but I don't see any special treatment to be honest. Cattermole has been pretty restrained recently and he doesn't generally drop back as deep as that anyway. It would be crazy for any player to get sent off in such a high stakes game.

    1978 Grimsby away, Bobby Cumming.

For those that were there...enough said.

Was thinking more for the last 10 games, they crock him they know we're are shagged with no recognised striker left it's a risk they could see worth taking.

Not saying they will mind but got me thinking all the same

Sorry maye, I'm a Sunderland supporter who has been visiting your forum as it's excellent. I just can't see us doing this tbh, it was some finish by him on Saturday, quality.

No, I don't think they will. They may man mark him, even attempt to rough him up a bit as he's not the biggest, but I don't think they'll try to injure him. Vast majority of players just wouldn't do that.

Top players have always faced the threat of injury by unscrupulous opposing defenders.
It's a lot better than it was in the mid 70's, but it still happens. Only thing you can do, is
try and ride the tackles and if you are deliberately targeted , hope that the Ref and/or his
assistants see any incident and take the appropriate action. Regarding Cattermole, he's well known
for carrying out what could be termed " industrial tackles", so he's a natural target for the
Refs scrutiny. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets that wound up, that he gets his marching
    orders when we play them.

If it was Leeds or Sheffield Utd bud I'd bet my piggy bank on it. I think Sunderland have a bit more grace about them.

Sorry Jay . If they think for one minute that woodrows goals are going to stop them from going up automatically they will be out to nail him... Where money is to be made theres no friends... Pound to a penny he gets kicked from pillar to post

Opinions hey. .. The above is my take on things to come

It was during the 78 promotion campaign. Us and Grimsby battling it out in the top four. A few minutes into the game Cumming trotted across and completely took out Allan Clarke with a late tackle resulting in Clarke getting carried off.
One of the most blatant hatchet jobs I've ever seen.

The following season at home to grimsby Cummings went in late and high on Norman Hunter who promptly twatted him and then walked off .

So do you think our players will be out to injure their players too?

Sunderland will make it tough, no doubting that, and my guess is they’ll simply try to stop the supply line to our front men. The one thing they have that we don’t is the experience, but having said that we’ve managed to see games out far more often than we haven’t. It’s going to be a very interesting game. Some say a pivotal game, but I don’t think the outcome would prove to be season-defining for either side. More twists and turns to come yet in my opinion.

Green will give them something more to worry about if he plays.
