I hope the club made enough money to justify lowering the prices so they weren't out of pocket for doing it.

Now they should be brave enough to do the same on Tuesday. They would make a lot of money and the police would love the idea of people getting to the ground much sooner.

The last time I was in the east stand was vs York in the JPT in late 2014 - they had Acorn Blonde on tap. I don't know when and why they took it off but I'd love it if they put it back on.

Wastage was the reason given but probably signing pouring rights with Coors might have also influenced it.

Do many people actually drink in Oakwell though? Take away executive area, Away fans, Redfearns and Director’s lounge, I don’t think it’s that many.

Does anyone have rough figures on the following? Just out of interest. Presume the club will.

    1) Average % split of fans who are of the legal age or above to drink alcohol.

    2) Average % split of the above who have an alcoholic drink of any type on matchday at any venue.

    3) Average % split of fans who purchase alcohol in the ground (exc executive level & Redfearns). Whether they have a drink before Oakwell or not.

So based on today’s home attendance (11,252), here’s my figures:

    I’m guessing 65% are 18+. (7,313).

I’d guess 40% of these have a drink on matchday. (2,925).

Then I’d go for 20% of the 40% buy at Oakwell. (585).

Not a massive amount across the 3 stands really.

I could obviously be miles out with my figures. I do know a lot of folk who don’t drink at all on matchday. For various reasons such as driving etc.

Why do we need to analyse it? The club have done something good, let's be happy about it. I've personally got far better things to spend my time and brainpower on than calculating another business's revenues and whether they're making money from promotions. Let them worry about it :)

    No, you misunderstand me.

I never mentioned the money side, just actually how many punters do have a drink.

My above point is about realistically, how many do actually drink in the ground. As I don’t think it’s that many. And if it isn’t, then it might explain why it’s a low priority from the club in terms of staff and prices etc.

So whilst the promotion was good, it’ll take something big like a proper fan zone or something to boost the numbers long term.

There would be more if the choice and quality of beers were better and cheaper. We would rather go to the ground early, but don't because of that.

100% pal. I just think long term it needs a different approach. Which I think the board already know.

What’s up with analysing stuff/talking about things it shows interest it doesn’t mean people don’t trust the clubs work it means we r positively engaged so if u don’t have time or brainpower that’s fine why criticise those that do ?

I fall into that category too.

I drink before, but not at the ground.

I just don’t think they can make it pay to do anything different without a shift in thought.

I think they realise that a fanzone would allow that. Busier, open longer and a hub for all fans. Then they could justify and sell better ales.

    Cheers.

Yeah, whilst my figures are only based on guesses and what I see each week, if they are anywhere near correct, then only 585 ish folk actually buy an alcoholic drink in the home stands. Although they could buy 2 each I guess.

If they are near correct, then it’s a small figure compared to the overall attendance.

We had a drink in the ground today and it felt wrong, just lurking around on the concourse among the vast majority who weren't drinking.

Yup. Something on them lines that can be utilised through the week too.

But decent quality and done out well. Not just 4 white walls etc with no soul. Like a themed sports bar etc

East Stand lower concourse. They should have filled in the big gaps above the turnstiles. It’s been bloody freezing for years because of that.

It's the old build it and they will come scenario? What would get me out of the Dove Inn and into the ground before 2:50 pm? Not frickin' Worthingtons that's for sure. If they put a beer garden/tent and some decent ale on I'd be down there at 2.
