strong winds and heavy rain forecast , would a postponement be a good thing at this time ,considering suspensions etc ,
Can’t see there being enough rain to Waterlog the pitch, it’s drier in the afternoon according to the forecast. I’ve never known a game be called off because it’s windy either. Can’t see it. But I wouldn’t want the game off anyway, only to have to jam it in towards the end of the season.
The only game I remember being called off for gales was way, way back in the mists of time.... I think it was against Rotherham. You stattos will know.
Weather forecast is shocking that’s for sure. Conditions will make it something of a battle which will probably suit Sunderland more than us.
Keeps changing. Don't think it's going to be as bad as initially forecast. Rain more so in the morning and the stronger winds are now expected to be over night tomorrow rather than early evening.
Just replied on Badgers thread re my **** memory. But have I plucked one out of the grey matter. Or imagined it, wasn’t a game once called off at t’well due to strong winds and the possibility of stuff blowing oft west stand.
Am fairly sure there was a game called off due to wind back in the early 90s. Or more likely, wind damage to the stand (old Brewery?) making it unsafe for the crowd until it could be repaired. I have vague memories of traveling back from somewhere for the game (in the pre-Internet games) and getting to the top of the hill overlooking the ground before realizing the floodlights were off and there was nobody about....
Flipping heck! I thought you were going to tell me! What I do remember, is that Jim Iley played Mick Butler, Peter Price and John Peachey together possibly for the first time. Unfortunately, it didn't work and we struggled to make any impression. Did Bobby Doyle score for us?
Way, way back in time Barnsley had the honour of having the first league match called off because of gales. This according to my Gt. Grandfather.
Price & Peachey were brought in to replace Butler after he'd suffered a broken leg. Peter Price scored something like nine goals in five matches at one stage. I couldn't wait to see them playing alongside Butler. Sadly, when it happened it never seemed to work. In fact, the only time both Butler & Price scored in the same match, a 2-1 win at Workington, Butler then had his leg broken for a second time that season. He still managed 19 goals in about 29 matches. As a footnote, Stahlrost once told me he owned a hamster whilst at university at that time which he named after Peter Price!
I vaguely remember that from the dim and distant past though I couldn't have told you who we were playing
