If it's a first offence and there was no actual physical marks under current sentencing guidelines it seems about right.

Not sure if as said above he was previously of good character and it was a first offence and he didnt do any actual harm to Grealish that seems about right - should have a very long ban - lifetime? from all football grounds though

I don't think you will be too far off with your guess. He was a idiot and should get longer, but people avoid prison for far more serious offences. They will see it as one clothesline and Grealish sat straight up unhurt on the floor. They will take into account him pleading guilty, his young family with another kid on the way and his apparent clean record. For him to get longer he would have had to be a known thug who used a weapon and landed more than one shot. He deservedly won't get to see his team play live in a stadium again, but what he did wasn't worse than fans who let off smoke bombs who we never read punishment stories about.

Invading the pitch carries only a fine. Grealish didn't appear to suffer any injury, so the assault may only have been charged as common assault. That offence is triable summarily (i.e. only in the magistrates' court) and carries a six month maximum prison sentence. Such a timely guilty plea would normally attract one third discount, so four months might well be the most Mr Mitchell can expect.

The repercussions from this will far outweigh any sentence this pillock gets.

The discount could arguably be reduced by the district judge if he/she took the view that the incident, being viewable on national TV constituted obvious guilt and therefore less credit for the early GP should be allowed. That would almost inevitably incur an appeal (to Crown Court) though, given that he could not receive any more than six months at the Crown Court if appealing there.

    Tuesday

13:30 Al Dancer/Fakir D’Oudairies Clear on ratings and have both recorded good time performances in victory this season. Both have course and distance victories to their name. Angel’s Breath is a danger but may ideally require further than two miles.

14:10 Duc Des Genievres Fifteen length winner at Gowran Park last time in an exceptional time. Looks better than the English contenders.

14:50 Give Me A Copper Likeliest improver in a competitive race; Paul Nicholls has nursed this one along having previously given him Gold Cup and Grand National entries.

15:30 Apple’s Jade Well ahead of Buveur D’Air on time and form performances this season and Laurina would have to improve a stone to beat her.

16:10 Benie Des Dieux Way ahead of these. A steal if you can get Evens for her.

16:50 Riders On The Storm Looks to have been targeted at this and gets in on a good handicap mark, being a likely further improver. Crack northern jockey Brian Hughes rides.

17:30 Ballyward Another laid out for a specific race, nicely ahead of these on time and form.

£10 level stakes; stakes split where more than one selection.

In normal circumstances he would be very unlucky to get bird and get off with community service or a suspended sentence. However, since they are attempting to make an example of him ....

The bloke from Leeds that punched Chris Kirkland a few years ago got 16 weeks, so seems about right to me.

It's not what going to happen to the idiot who punched Grealish that should be of any concern to
anyone apart from the cretins immediate family. It's not the first time that an incident like yesterday's has occurred at
St Andrews. The EFL are likely to come down hard on them as a deterrent for anyone
else attempting something similar in future. Punishments ranging from a points deduction, or as Alan
Shearer recommended on MOD2 last night, being made to play future home games
behind closed doors, will send the right message that it's not acceptable behaviour.
Such a measure seems harsh, but would probably be the motivation the Club needs to
review their future Stewarding and Policing arrangements to prevent any repetition.

Or better still behind closed doors for home fans and only allow in away fans with a verifiable history ... or would there be too much risk of trouble outside the ground - maybe a beam back to the away ground

Disgusting. There was a big deal made recently about "one punch" killers. Throwing a punch at the back of somebody's head is extremely dangerous and cowardly. Hopefully the government will introduce stronger laws in future.

Occasionally (very) I've been tempted to punch somebody (not blindside) and the next thought through my mind has always been...what if I break their nose or they fall backwards and hit their head......it could cause serious damage even death.....so I don't do it.
Am I abnormal? I don't think so. Why don't thoughts like this cross the minds of idiots like the Birmingham moron?
