Just seen a stat saying that Sheff United hold the record for the most points in a League One season without promotion. They got 90 points the year when Simonsen smashed his penalty over at Wembley. The MASSIVE finished second with 93. We have 73 points with 9 games left. What do we reckon we need? It's looking like a new record will be set IMO - 90 points will be touch and go. 7 wins gives us 94. That then means Sunderland would need 25 points from their last 10 games - including tomorrow night. (26 points as our goal difference is currently superior). If we win tomorrow, we're nearly there.
I've got this terrible feeling that we'll end up losing to Donny at Wembley. Somebody please write something to make it better, so I can sleep tonight....
Just focus on tomorrow night's game. That is the only one that matters. As the old football saying goes, take one match at a time. Oh, and have a drink, or five!
Spot on plenty of games left plenty of points to play for. Couple of months back people said pompey couldn't be caught.
If we win tomorrow we wont need 90 points Sunderland would need to win 7 of their last 10 to get above us and with fixture congestion and their habit of drawing recently I dont see them getting to 90. Win tomorrow and another 5 wins would do it for us or 4 wins and a couple of draws We should be aiming to finish above Luton though and thats much harder - think we will need at least 95 for that and quite possibly the big 100 thats a much harder ask still we got 24 points from our last 10 games if we can do the same again from the next 10 we will be close. Still years of supporting Barnsley - I can see us beating Sunderland and Doncaster then losing at Walsall and only drawing against Coventry
I can see us hitting 92 points. Quite honestly I'm terrified of ending up into the playoffs. I don't fancy us against Portsmouth, Charlton or Donny, they're all grounds where we don't have a particularly good record.
