..... should be thrown out of the Premier League and banned from the EFL and any European league unless they pay what is owed for Emiliano Sala to Nantes. To claim their deal is ‘null and void’ is a disgrace to football and memory of the poor lad who perished. They did after all claim him as one of their own and sent Warnock to his funeral to represent his club but now they seem to have forgotten all that now the dust has settled and money should be paid. Their actions bring shame to a disgusting club.
Without knowing all the details of the contract it's hard to say really, looks that way from the outside I agree.
It appears they are claiming he hasn’t signed a contract as the first one was voided due to arrangements about how the payments were stacked. He was flying back with the intention of signing the new one. As the OP stares he was one of their own until they had to pay. I’d refuse them permission to sign players until They have paid what’s owed.
UEFA said it would investigate the whole matter with a view to points deduction..... they will go down anyway as they are really dreadful. So a points deduction would not really hurt unless they implemented it next season. I somehow cannot see expulsion happening, if it did would it be a first.
I think we need to understand the details too - it looks to me like Cardiff are in the wrong - if Cardiff had signed a contract to buy him and he had left and was on his way there - the fact that final approval for him to play hadnt been given by the FA seems to me to be somewhat clutching at straws. Cardiff had signed him and there seems to be no serious question the deal wouldnt have gone through but as above I am always a bit wary of stories when I only have limited information via the media and not the whole story
I read an article that might be easy to find, he signed but the contract was ruled invalid however both clubs had agreed a revised contract apparently that he hadn’t signed. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www....otentially-invalid-contract-cardiff-city/amp/
The only issue I can think of is if the deal hasn't actually been agreed correctly then maybe Cardiff's insurers wouldn't pay out on the policy. With the amount of money involved it's not surprising this is happening however unsavoury it is. The real shame is that it has become public knowledge and the clubs couldn't soet this out privately.
Hmm I can see some highly paid legal advisors doing well out of this. Much as I dislike Cardiff this is a situation I wouldnt wish on anyone and if he really wasnt officially their player and the deal could still have fallen through I can see they may have some point - Deals do fail at the last minute. But we still dont know enough to be able to judge
I think you’ve probably got it right here. Insurers won’t pay if contract not signed. Club are trying to limit damages. Business is business. If it was all roses and sweet, the clubs would agree to split it 50/50 or waive the fee in total. You could say Nantes are also insensitive for chasing the money too - but again, it’s business. It’s a bizarre scenario - as normally insurance would be expected to cover this.
The insurers have refused to pay, which I expect is at least partly behind Cardiff's refusal to pay. I doubt they'll contest the litigation all the way as the legal costs of doing so would be very substantial. Additionally it would open them up to a points deduction, which (whether this season or next season) might relegate them, and the financial consequences of that would be far greater than the contested transfer fee. They are putting their best foot forward to try and put doubt in Nantes mind with a view to negotiating a settlement. It will be resolved quietly and by agreement in a few months' time.
