Looking forward to watching it next week. Should be a good game and occasion. Interesting head to head stat for those looking to have a wager. Pompey are unbeaten in 7 v the Marras, and have only lost 1 in the last ten meetings.
Won't be watching as I've other things on but am hoping for a Portsmouth win I think. It 'll probably be the first of 2 trips for at least one of the teams, if not both.
Does this fixture go to extra time this year? if so that would be the ideal situation for us. Also if there is a red card would the suspension carry over to the league? I aint clutching here I just want something to cheer on if I decide to watch it.
Just enjoy the game, promising to be a good one ( boring 0-0 now) I’m usually neutral on these but hoping Sunderland win, if only for Spender who posts on here. Unlike a Sunderland supporting Woman at work who cheered loudly when I told her about Kieffer Moore’ s injury and also said that Dougall deserved his broken leg as he should've have been playing at Donny as he should’ve been sent off against them at Oakwell?
Thanks mate. I'd hope the majority of our supporters have more class than the woman you work with. I know the majority who posted on the Kieffer Moore thread on our forum wished him all the very best. As I've said before, you have done brilliantly to keep the results coming despite losing him. I'm looking forward to the occasion and have no expectation at all that we will win. A road trip with a good playlist on in the car, plenty of lager and singing and just enjoying the atmosphere is good enough for me, a win is a bonus. It's my 6th time supporting Sunderland at Wembley and have yet to see us win therefore I will just hope for the best.
Enjoy the day Spender. Last time I went to Wembley we lost, trip there was more fun than the trip home!
I've seen Sunderland once at Wembley vs Leeds in 1973. Got the tickets in a raffle from the local team I played for. At that time every single team who were members of an FA received 2 tickets. Cracking game which Sunderland won 1-0 . Leeds battered them but couldn't beat Jim Montgomery who was unbeatable. Good luck in the final mate
I went to the semi final at Hillsborough, 2-1 against Arsenal, cracking day out. Best memory was Charlie George throwing a hissy fit while the Sunderland fans were singing just because your losing
Thank you. Yeah it's a long journey back, we are making a night of it on the Sunday win, lose or draw.
Blimey, that's harsh! And I thought our two defeats in our first two appearances there constituted a curse!
Cheers. I forgot that the FA used to do that with the final tickets. My dad and brother were there, I've watched it a few times since and yeah Monty was unbeatable that day. We had no right to win but it just goes to show what is possible if you play well and it's your day. I watched the footage from before the game on youtube the other week and saw that Bobby Charlton had tipped us before the game. Cloughy didn't give us a chance and said something about we all like to believe in fairies but it isn't possible for Leeds to lose.
Can you remember the curse of the dressing rooms. Can't remember which it was but it was mentioned a lot at the time. Wonder how long it lasted?
Can't help but hope for a tough physical game that goes all the way to penalty kicks, may the best team win.
It'll be nice watching it and not caring who wins because it won't affect our league position. Hopefully a couple or 3 red cards to key players, niggling injuries and tired legs.
That's why I'm not at all confident. 1985 lost to Norwich 1-0 to an own goal and we missed a penalty. 1990 lost to 1-0 to Swindon in the playoff final, we were completely outclassed from start to finish. They were subsequently demoted for financial irregularities and we went up anyway. 1992 lost 2-0 to Liverpool in the FA cup final 1998 lost to Charlton on penalties, the most drained I have ever been after a football game 2014 lost to Man City in the league cup 3-1 Not a happy place at all!
