Who's being xenophobic or elitist? I'm just stating a fact. Some countries are generally less advanced than others, hence the term "third world" When did I say we have a better culture? We certainly have a lot of different beliefs and cultures living in the UK. We welcome foreign nationals. I actually said "what a strange world" I was referring to all of it. I
He's completely missed the point of my post mate. Yeah, monkey chants are something from another decade, but I was pretty much saying the world's like that. Different countries are generally better or less developed than others. people are still living in the amazon rain forest and others still using the ganges for washing clothes and doing a toilet. If pointing out that some countries have less modern cultures and attitudes makes me an elitist or xenophobic, the world's gone mad.
Come on. Is it Chechnya that maintains there are no gays living in the country and persecutes any they actually do find? There are a myriad of countries around the world who are significantly behind us and many other nations in terms of open mindedness, tolerance and enlightenment.
I don't think they made it as far as Chechnya. There has to come a point where they thought...is it really worth it.
Probably your average Montenegro fan is no more racist than your average England fan, we’ve just made it culturally unacceptable.
Do you mean sterling cupping his ear after he scored? Give over he did right. So someone can hurl racist abuse at you and your team mates but when you bang a goal in against them you shouldn't give them some back? Nah I used to think sterling was a prat but the way he has handled himself this season on and off the field has made me change my mind. Turning into a world class player and a good role model.
Just a snippet of a John Barnes interview. Hits the nail on the head. If people believe it's gone away in this country. Think again. May not be in the magnitude of some of these other behind the times countries, so to speak, but exists all the same. Montenegro v England: Tackling racism in society must come first, warns Barnes 'Don't just pick on Montenegro' over racism - Barnes Banning Montenegro or calling for players to walk off the pitch when they hear racist abuse is not the answer to football's problems, according to former England winger John Barnes. England's 5-1 win in Montenegro on Monday was overshadowed by several of their black players being racially abused by home fans. "It can't be tolerated but we've got it the wrong way around," said Barnes. "You can't get rid of it in football before you get rid of it in society." "Walking off, for me, is not the answer. Who decides what you've heard? How many people do you have to hear? One? So if you hear one everybody walks off? Or does it have to be 10 or does it have to be 100? Who decides? "Is it a black player or a white player that is going to walk off? If a black player doesn't walk off does that make it OK for the white players? Or are they culpable because they don't walk off?" Goes on to talk about the incident at chelsea . If the guy wasn't caught on video we'd have been none the wiser.
Never forgotten Les Ferdinand looking straight at me and shaking his head as he retrieved the ball for a corner and three muppets in the row in front made monkey noises at him. Our only season in the prem and that was his lasting impression of us as a club. We exchanged a few heated words with the group in question who were there for the season and it happened more than once. Stewards did nowt all season, we wrote to the club because it was a regular occurrence with visiting black players but again no action was taken. I’m still ashamed to this day. Evil triumphs when good men do nothing, or summat like that.
