The players all should have a similarly haired coloured squad for the run in. To show solidarity. Jet black. Then get the petrol retailers to sponsor it.
Felt for Williams today. He's not ready to play every week, and struggled from the start today, but no Pinillos or Fryers means he's got to be used. Cracking shot from him in the 2nd half though.
Not quite sure why he's got so much stick Why did Cavare not close their man down sooner for the first? He had an eternity to cross. Second yes he could and probably should have cleared, but we should have dealt with the situation better before it got to him I think there were a few sub par performances today but he wasn't the worst and got next to no protection at times
Exactly and I was thinking the same earlier... the lad quite literally saved us last week on the line at Warsaw!.
Walsall was a great result masking a worrying overall performance. Today was better but we only got a point due to defensive frailty. All Williams’ errors at Walsall prove the point. I’m not just talking about today. He’s cost us two goals today in my view, (yes others are culpable in part but he had opportunity to deal with both and did neither) - but at Walsall and at donny he showed he’s not up to playing left back in a back four at this moment in time and was an accident waiting to happen. Today it happened. But it was always going to.
I'm like you - a superfan so I don't blame anyone. Apart from the fans maybe. Where were you sat today?
Ben is a young lad learning his trade - he will be good & not so good at times. Skating him will not make him a better player - Danny has been good until his injury & should now come back stronger
Exactly this. That ball should never have got anywhere near the box. They took a quick freekick and we weren't alive. The whole left flank was open and Cavare was left on his own to defend against their winger. Where was the midfield, couldn't even see Brown, no support out wide. Yes it was poorly defended in the box but as a unit we totally switched off from front to back when they scored their goal. An element of luck let the ball bounce at the strikers feet too. How many times did they get the lucky bounce yesterday? Even for their second goal. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather Pinillos play. But to pin the draw (almost typed loss then, feels like it!) on a young, inexperienced defender who's doing his utmost in the team is unfair and quite frankly unjustified.
A game of missed opportunities. We should have been out of site. Add to that Thiam and Brown didn't turn up... should have been subbed at half time. Pinnock and Lindsay had an off day... Woodrow, Mowatt, McGeehan, Brown, Thiam, all missed sitters... Ref had a shocker... clear pen for us in 1st. But it's all Ben Williams fault. In then end. Davies should have been MOTM.
I thought Williams was very very poor today. Made a mistake for the first goal then nearly cost us a second immediately after with another huge mistake. He also was at fault for the second. BUT, he’s a kid, he’ll get better and improve. He isn’t first choice and is still learning his trade. It’s not about making the lad a scapegoat, it’s merely commenting that he had an off day. So did just about everyone else barring Davies. We looked leggy and lethargic. A couple of days off would do those players the world of good IMO.
I do love how we slate a young lad that’s worked his ballax off to get to where he is today, a young lad that’s just starting out as a professional footballer and is in a position we can only dream of, yes he’s had a shaky start but instead of having a go at him why don’t we try encouraging him (radical I know), I hope Stendal is telling him to ignore his critics and keep working on what’s got him this far in his career,
Iam sure Daniel can see what we see and more, he's looks after these lads that's plain to see. Have faith in this manager and team.
That's not true at all. We were happy to pay him a grand but we wouldn't make any assurances he'd be in the first team squad.on a regular basis.
The biggest culprit in the first goal was Adam Davies. A hanging cross to the back post that was in the air and only four yards away from him, and he retreated. He should have been claiming that all day long. Of course Williams should have done better, but then so should the whole team at the free-kick, so should Brown just before the free-kick when he went to sleep and let their winger overlap, the ref with two terrible decisions back to back. Also Williams' clearance 9 times out of ten ends up in the West Stand. That was a lucky deflection in their favour. We've had the luck in our favour previously - it happens. I'm not saying Williams is clear of criticism as he is struggling with aspects of his game defensively. But it isn't him personally that's been attacked by the opposition it's our left side. It's awful. Cavare gets so much more protection from whoever plays in front of him, whilst Williams is regular left two on one with the attacking player having an edge vs. his standing start. His contribution offensively, especially first half, was great to see from a young Academy graduate playing for his home club, sitting 2nd in the league. The criticism is over the top and not needed for what was a decent performance.
why did his father say on social media he wanted to stay but was offered 850 quid a week, never mentioned owt abart first team
The whole club statement talked about the first team. Hecky and others mentioned it in multiple interviews. Were you living under a rock at the time?
Oh well better take the word of our much loved ex manager and the mysterious others on this, all I read was what his dad had put, Better crawl back under my rock
