I think I tried to imply I was talking about fans in general i.e. 'if one can't', not you specifically. I think we're agreeing here. Fans getting riled up by players and then stabbing someone are to blame. I'm not saying you linked the two.

That's horrible. I don't know what possesses people to go around carrying knives.

Helen, probably none of those who cause trouble. BTW one of those stabbed has died of his wounds. Happened in a very up market part of Glasgow City centre. Plush bars. Not exactly where you would expect to get stabbed. The fight was on cctv so I fully expect a few arrests very soon.

I'd say it was a high percentage with the old firm, red helen.
Lived up there 20 years ago and it was bad, my mates still say it's as bad as ever. I'm sure ian can give us a more accurate picture but my mates up there are policeman and work the games. Sectarianism is alive and well.

    Agree with all of this.
Now my team had a hand in holding Rangers to account over basically cheating and them getting relegated. There is huge resentment against us. I very much doubt I will ever go back to Ibrox to see my team. I'd fear for my life literally. The other lot are just as bad.

Is this the wrong time to point out there's a bunch of our away fans who think it's clever to sing 'f*** the pope and the IRA'?

No. Nothing like that should be sung. Totally unacceptable. Anyone care to disagree and explain why they sing it and think it's OK.

...and not unusual. I know your line is ‘a curse on both your houses’ Ian but if you look at what has actually happened in the past - Rangers lose games they murder Celtic fans. The idea that it’s equal sectarianism on both sides is palpable nonsense. For years anti catholic bigotry was institutionalised in Scottish society and that approach was intrinsic to Rangers Fc.

I totally understand what you are saying Dalestyke. And it's true.
I used to go with a Catholic woman originally from Glasgow. Remember her once saying after an old firm game if Rangers won there was loads of trouble. But if Celtic won there was loads of trouble and murder on the streets.
But TBH both are as bad as each other. And I can't see things changing anytime soon.

No: both sides are equally culpable and there is legions of documentary and primary evidence to prove so. Any suggestion to the contrary could only come from someone who has an agenda.

It's interesting to hear the various comments about Scott Brown as to the merits of his winding up of opponents. It has always been in the game just like sledging in cricket. Fans think it is OK when their player is doing the winding up. Listening to Jonathon Walters on 'Football Focus' Saturday lunchtime, he was talking about playing against Virgil van Dyke. "I couldn't outrun him, outhead him, out-tackle him or dribble past him, so I had to try to get into his head, and that didn't work either".

Don't be a dick by purporting to know my mind.
And don't be a further dick by the suggestion that your view constitutes 'evidence' or otherwise of sectarianism in Scotland - it doesn't.

Extraordinary puerile response to a very rational, reasonable and evidentionally based reply to yours.
Think i've unquestionably proved i'm right with the tone of your response :)[/QUOTE]

Well, the intellectual brilliance of that argument has certainly swayed me. I do apologize for my initial response. You have my vote Mr May.
