It's not the same thing though. Your example is quite rightly illegal now and was never really banter, it was an excuse for men in positions of power to take advantage of women.
Outstanding, should have had Abbott on the other lane, the man is hated by the forces as much as Thatcher was hated by the miners
ok let's for arguments sake in WW2 call it "the allies". As for the Cold War, I was there too, in the forces, ready to be vaporized and shot at like every one else. As for WW1, sure there were allies there too and there was less chance of us getting turned over, mostly due to us having a decent Navy. There's no attempt to rewrite history here owd lad or indeed, blow out of proportion the American influence, but they were certainly key players. Lastly, and I'm not causing issue, can you show me your source that maintains VE was "primarily down to the Soviets" I'd be interested. Sure they sapped the Germans strength during their ill-fated excursion into Russia (a la Napoleon) but D Day was really Brits, Americans, Canadians et al. with the Soviets pushing from the other side.
I appreciate those points JP but the principle would be the same. If something is going to cause outrage then morality has to be applied with equal standards.
Or the more widely accepted reading of this; that May is running on empty and sees using Corbyn as a patsy. An easy target to blame when it inevitably breaks down.
Tbf there would have been outrage if it had been any of them . The Sun and Mail would have wanted blood. They would not have dared and the officers will have turned a blind eye . If it’s not acceptable for one it’s not acceptable at all . I remember certain posters on this threads reactions when an effigy of Thatcher was burned in Goldthorpe . Some had blood pressure overload and the Media wanted them hung .
I guess it depends whether it is moral outrage, or whether whoever has shared this is trying to encourage the shooting of an MP. We have had a local MP murdered, so it isn't totally out of the question. I think your thoughts about the actions of the squaddies is balanced though & your comment re the officers enlightening.
It’s the same thing morally though . But it’s alright for our armed forces to put pictures of our politicians up for target practice? Wheres the Sun and Mails condemnation ? And it was classed as banter then and accepted .
The armed forces recruit from society, it reflects society, I can speak after serving and still serving after 30 years that the army is pulling up tree's in regard of sexism, racism, inclusion, tolerance etc
You're right about the circumstances JP. If this had been some far right lunatics shooting at a picture of Jezza I'd be more concerned but I know how squaddies think so I'm certain there was no sinister motivation. They'll end up on RPs and they'll suffer. Punishment served and let them get on with their job.
you seriously had to ask that question, oh dear, oh deary me . he is not even capable of looking after my pet slug Simon!
That’s as I see it . Mays bankrupt trying to keep the infighting inside the Tories are feked and the Medias owners are In panic
I joined the armed forces in 1973.... went on to give them 33 years of service... I can totally assure you the party that did the largest damage to the armed forces was Labour.
Having served in the military this wouldn't normally be a worry. Unfortunately after speaking to ex colleagues, I've been told certain regiments are becoming rife with extreme right wing sympathisers. Politicians are never loved in military but if this video is genuine it's a worry. Since leaving and joining a front line government agency I've mellowed and become more rational in my thinking. Corbyn is an idealist and actually he's been right about a lot of foreign policy issues. Trident folks is a busted flush, waste of money for already outdated tech.
Shooting at a picture is nothing like sexual harassment. I honestly believe that if they had chosen a picture of May you wouldn't have given a rats arse about it. Like I've said I remember the same thing happening back in the 90's when I served and it was just a bit of silly, misguided fun. I wouldn't do it now but as a 20 something squaddie I didn't see a problem with it. Would I have touched up a woman when I was in my 20's - absolutely no chance. The Mail have covered it and its not too dissimilar to the reporting from The Guardian https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...y-soldiers-shooting-Jeremy-Corbyn-target.html https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/apr/03/video-british-troops-firing-jeremy-corbyn-poster
