Have you noticed problems with racism in Leeds on a Saturday night? Genuine question as I’ve never noticed any bother despite going on hundreds (if not more) of Saturday nights out in Leeds with black men in our group. I always thought Leeds is a place that is very open to diversity.
Oh dear. I feel like I'm at Valley Parade in 1978. Morons in our end making monkey chants at Cec Pod, possibly one of the coolest people ever to play association football. Where was I? Oh yes 2019. Bugger me.
I agree with the rest of what django says on this thread but if danny rose went out round Leeds or Bradford I don't think he would find any racism they are both very multi cultural city's. If he went out round towns like Castleford, rotherham, pontefract ect could be diffrent.
Well if we're lucky to have ANY racist abuse at all that's just great isn't it?... One racist is one too many and to imply that because the problem is less worse here is to underplay the entire issue.
I think you are largely correct, although it would depend on the district. It is about education, which is linked to class & poverty, in that the disadvantaged are less educated.
Ah.... So its ok then? Just a bit of terrace banter really innit? And there was me thinking its completely out of order. Tsk!
Yes I think yer right. Those pictures of Chelsea fans abusing Sterling were stood with black guys. It’s aimed at getting at a player. I haven’t heard any complaints about the abuse Paul Scholes used to get ???
Maybe not blatant overt racism but a few years ago I started sharing a flat in Leeds with a colleague. I was the only white guy in his close friendship group and as a group we were a lot more likely to be let into bars if I was at the front as we approached.
The ginger slaves of the past have never been able to get any kind of equality even in 2019. Great orators like Chris Evans have put their lives on the line since the late 90s, to try and get equal rights for fellow gingers. I remember reading about the time Patsy Palmer from Eastenders made a stand on the bus from Tooting because she was asked to get out of the seat that was for ‘Non Gingers’.
You will never eradicate racism or any other "isms" I'm afraid. You might be able to make it less acceptable to vocalise these opinions (which is largely happening) but you will never have conformity of thought. There will always be some racists - white, black, Asian, Hispanic etc etc. These people will always exist. It's in the interests of the media and Kick It Out to make people think the problem is getting worse.
The guy who shouted "you black lovely person" yeah he was sat near a black person, there is no indication they were together. It doesn't make it okay. Like Marlon talked of racist abuse towards Jacob brown at Coventry a young 19/20 year old in his 1st season of senior football that isn't banter it's bang out of order. I don't know you personally but when you or other people condone racist behaviour you come across as a uneducated racist.
In answer to comparison abuse I watched a family member play from a young age and due to being tall and thin was abused at nearly every game he played. Lanky B Shortarsed B Ginger B Foureyed B Fat B As well as Black B I've heard them all levelled at children playing football and can assure you Abuse is Abuse for whatever reason these morons choose and if one dunt work they try another one till summat hits home, sadly the only way to tackle this at football is for all of use to say NO... All it takes for evil to prosper is for good people to do nothing....sadly the minority morons are are fanning the flame of publicity, sad innit.
Yeah i agree education but diversity plays a big part if you grow up around people of diffrent races and have friends of diffrent races you are less likely to go to be a racist.
I'm sure you're right about some racism being ever present but tacitly accepting it is no good my friend ( am I patronising you by saying 'my friend'?).
Only you can decide if you were being patronising or not. I'm more inclined to disagree with the use of the word "tacitly".
Well the 'friend' thing was genuine as you're a BFC fan and I've no gripe with anyone. As to the 'tacitly' I do think that because you are resigned to the fact that racism endures you are willing to effectively say 'ah well...' to it. If I'm correct (and I may not be) that is tacit acceptance for me
Try ‘walking in another mans shoes’ is a prevalent proverb for this thread. I one tried to do it in @Extremely Northern’s and I couldn’t fit into his size 2 clogs.
