I've heard racist abuse aimed at our players this season on more than one occasion. As have the players it was aimed at. By their own 'fans'. Scumbags. Anyone trying to condone it, dress it down, you shouldn't be allowed on here.
Are you real? Racism is INTOLERABLE and has no place on here, at the match, or anywhere else. What are the interests of "Kick it Out" you don't agree with?
Unbelievable. I'm a firm believer that at times pc goes slightly mad but some of the comments on here are just unbelievable. There is absolutely no defence for trivialising racism. It's not a bit of banter. You would hope the comments suggesting it is are made with the intention to be controversial rather than as a reflection of actual conviction.
I rarely agree with much Conan or Nudger say these days but I’m absolutely disgusted with their contributions to this thread. Playing down of, trivialising and denying the significance of this behaviour is essentially accepting it. I’m not of vintage to have been in the stands in the seventies and eighties. Yes I know things have changed since then. But not enough. Barnsley have had some magnificent contributions from black players down the years. We were also one of the earlier clubs to have a black manager, I can only think of Keith Alexander before Viv managed his season here. I guess there were maybe one or two more, not many. Yet a quarter of a century later we still have ‘fans’ giving our own players racist abuse, but there’s no problem? The point about it being a problem of society not just football is very true though. There is a racist, bigoted stench in my view in this country at the moment. The far right extremist views seem to be getting louder, reaching further and being seen as closer and closer to the norm. It is foul and it is dangerous. As a side note, Danny Rose’s grandad is a regular in the bookies my Mrs works at. Lovely fella, proud as punch of his grandson, and for him and his family to still get abuse in the streets, as I know he does, can never be played down.
Let me just read my post back and find where I said it should be tolerated..........I can't find it. I think that what must have happened is that someone decided to read something in the post that wasn't there, then twist it in order to shout about to make themselves look good. You've got form for this kind of thing.
So we're saying that there is racism around the grounds aimed at our own players in this country, yet we want Montenegro banned/docked points for the same thing happening when England play? It doesn't add up. Unfortunately it's not as easy as slogans like kick racism out of football. Football is actually one of the least racist occupations in terms of opportunity pay and progression I would think. I'm more hopeful of the younger generation who at least acknowledge that things their parents might have thought acceptable to say aren't. Maybe it needs to be clearer what the sequence of events should be if someone hears racist abuse. And if a fan reports something it must be acted upon.
It’s not just those who follow right wing philosophy that enjoy handing out racist abuse at the football. To just otherwise is a bit blinkered. In fact I would suggest that very little of the abuse at football is enshrined in a political viewpoint. It tends to come from individuals who have had too much pop and are trying to be funny and/or frustrated with the said player and struggle to voice it in a way outside of the obvious. Don’t get me wrong there are some who have a general dislike of black players and like expressing the same but thankfully these seem to be a dying breed.
Danny hasn't helped himself with his comments on what he spends on a night out etc but he has experienced racist abuse more than most elite footballers and I back him. I remember what he suffered playing for England U21s being vile. I was pretty peeved by some comments from journalists around the theme of 'can't believe this is happening in 2019'. Wake the **** up and get out of your London vacuum. Racism has never gone away and it's the work of organisations like Kick It Out which has done so much to make it unnacceptable on UK terraces. But as we're seeing, other countries are way behind and society at large in this country has a toxic feel which means many morons have the confidence to start again at English grounds. Sadly it's indicative of an atmosphere of nastiness, anger and division which is on the rise. Can you extract these events, fans running onto the pitch to punch players, soldiers shooting at pictures of MPs, far right nutjobs being jailed for plotting to murder MPs, from what's gone on politically in the last 10 years? Absolutely not. It's bloody dangerous and sadly not a dwindling older minority as some have argued. The mainly teenage 'Stone Island' crew who follow Barnsley and most other teams lap up the culture of the 70s and 80s right wing hooligan, with Tommy Robinson as their idol. They blindly adopt the codes of the clan; overt machoism even if they haven't started shaving, hatred of anyone who isn't white and hetrosexual, belief in Britain as an elite imperial force, some odd defence of Protestantism even though they've never set foot in a church, couldn't name the Pope and were born after the Good Friday agreement (not that they'd have a clue what that is). Some will grow out of it, some will get worse. But it's bloody scary and that's why anything that feeds into it needs to be stamped out.
If you read the interview I think he hates the racist abuse in football and the authorities fining country's small amounts which has no effect. He hates the politics and that's why he says he can't wait to get out. I don't think he hates playing altogether. What do you expect him to do re train as a plasterer because he has received racist abuse playing football? Did you not think to have a word or report him?
We did have a word with him but he wasn't the brightest so it fell on deaf ears. I think my mate did report it once. I think he's dead now.
I actually think this post has some merit , you are never going to get rid of racism . They ll always be someone out there happy to empower themselves over others due to race / beliefs . Should we then turn a blind eye to it because we know it's going to happen , I'd say no but how we proceed moving forwards certainly needs addressing . As for the media's behaviour in all of this we can use the whole anti semetism debacle for example . Wall to wall stories in the media about it which has unwittingly pushed the anti Semites cause but when a story comes along which is in my opinion disgusting , here https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/02/asia/brunei-lgbt-inhumane-stoning-laws-intl/index.html We hear hardy anything .
Love throwing that accusation about you. Even when there is no element of racism in the reply. Or when there are people rightfully shaming you for putting your money losses over a mans health at Burton last year. If that isn't an indicator of you as a person i don't know what is.
You should know all about the inability to remain calm & coherant after a skinful given the number of aggressive and/or abusive rants youve had on all manner of topics and got yourself into trouble on here over the years. No different on the terraces or the street. People when pissed change... Ironically, Im in Burton today. First time i came here i offered to put a bloke through the stand for making monkey noises next to my missus. Is he actually a racist? unlikely. Was he trying to show off to his mates cos he was three sheets to the wind? Most definatly. He wasnt a right wing tommy fan or dressed head to toe in Stone Island. Infact given the company he was in... Id say he is more likely to vote for the same ideals as you. And while we are at it, if i was to be honest. I couldnt give a **** what you think about me. Ive been called alot worse by better people than you. Remember to enjoy alchol responsily.
So you are now comparing yourself to the 100s of years of systematical racism, the black race has had to endure?
