...there isn't enough quality in the squad. For whatever reason the overall skill set of the team is not good enough to inspire confidence in automatic promotion. Whether it be misplaced shots, poor decision making, bad passing, inconsistent performances, lapses at the back.... Whatever it is the team is not strong enough and will need further work/strengthening I'm the summer. If the team do manage to get into the automatic spot it will be down to the management/coaching and hard work ethic rather than a collectively class footballing act. I obviously hope they go up automatically as we all do but over the season, for me, they've not been quite good enough often enough.
If a stranger came on here and read this post he wouldn’t believe you were talking about a side that has for large part been in top 3 in league and consistently described by other managers as one of if not best side in the league.
In other news I saw a bear **** in the woods today. For goodness sake we are third, not third bottom. A bit of praise for the team might be allowed one day.
The same set of players have had the quality to reach second place. I believe Saturday was the first game we've lost without Moore. Out of form maybe, but not good enough? I don't believe that.
Some may also say that some of fans aren't quite good enough, often enough or that the skill set of some of our fans isn't good enough. Some may say that, but I couldn't possibly comment...
If that's an intended repost its meaningless. I'm talking about the players on the pitch. Agree with me or don't but at least be relevant
Exactly. We were IMHO one injury away from running away with the second spot. How can that be true if we don't have enough quality in the side. Lack of consistency, perhaps, but not quality.
The two concepts aren't mutually exclusive. Quality players tend towards consistency. That's why they are quality...
But it's league one. If they were consistently good they wouldn't be playing at this level, or they'd be on silly wages like McGeady at Sunderland.
On balance, yes, although I think most players have do runs of good/bad/average form, regardless of which league they play in. It's just that "average" in the Prem means something different to "average" in L1. A team full of average performers, especially at this level, is probably nowhere.
How does that work? You could consistently be the best player(s) every week at the level you are at but not good enough for the level above.
Barring left back & out wide I think we’ve got a quality side & even the options out wide aren’t poor players I just don’t think they’re as good as the rest of the side. The first eleven is quality it’s back up where we’ve come up short. Two injuries to Moore & Dougall & we’re desperately short of options
If the squad had enough quality they could cope without Moore and Dougall. In fact, I personally think it's only Moore that has been missed. Dougall is not as great as some on here would say. Moore is missed because he gives another dimension to the attack tactically.
could be, you're right, but more often than not you're not going to a have a full team of such players. Most will catch the eye and be tempted away as we well know. Just look at how many of our players left in 2017 for better things, and haven't pulled up any trees. All consistently good enough for a move away.
They coped without Moore earlier in the season, and because of McGeehans form, Dougal couldn't get a start.
You did, but you also mentioned lack of quality and skill set in your original post. We had the skill to pick Moore out for his goals, but Woodrow, who's technically very good lacks Moores physical presence, so what are we missing? Skill or physicality?
