Things may not be as straightforward as some people think. Barton may well claim he was harassed during the match - that at the end of the match in the tunnel Stendel came up to him - was abusive and threw the first punch and that he (Barton) acted in self defence. That is, Barton would claim that he too was assaulted. We shouldn't jump to conclusions based on the fact that Barton has past criminal convictions for violence and that he was fleeing the club implying that he was at fault. The stakes are very high for both managers -
I mean you’re absolutely right. The most concrete official correspondence we have is confirmation of an alleged altercation at the moment. We should wait until we know more before jumping to conclusions. Saying that, though, I really don’t think Stendel is the sort. Yes, he’s energetic and passionate, but violent and aggressive? I don’t think so. It’ll all come out in time.
No way would Woodrow or Cavare have tweeted what they did so quickly if Daniel had started it. Having read up on Barton's past misdemeanors I doubt he had to say much if anything.
I like Stendel - he's doing a brilliant job for us - and I back him100%. BUT, with his career, livelihood etc at stake Barton will defend himself -. almost certainly saying he was provoked - Stendel physically assaulted him first - and he (Barton) was defending himself. Fleetwood players and Barnsley players may well come up with very different accounts of what happened in the tunnel. Things could get difficult for BOTH managers.
Why did the FTFC officials try to sneak the arse-wipe out rather than let him put his case to SYP then?
So in a hypothetical scenario if you have a disagreement with a fella on a night out and you have words and a bit of pushing and your mates break you up and then 5 minutes later you see the same fella again and sucker punch him while he wasn’t looking is this self defence? The police interviewed all the academy lads that were in the tunnel that witnessed it happen first hand.
So Barton chased after him for a gentlemanly chat to clear the air and Stendel went off on one? I don't think so somehow.
To answer your question in your post - no, it isn't self defence. The point I am making is that Barton isn't going to say 'I assaulted him for no reason at all.' He will either say he felt he was provoked or that he was acting in self-defence. This may be a pack of lies but Barton will try to save his own skin.
If it goes to court (my guess is that it wont) the solicitors will ask for all recordings from kick off to the time of the incident in the tunnel to assess the interaction between Stendel and Barton for the whole 90+ minutes.
From my own observation, after the well publicised hand shake Stendel walks on to the pitch and spends time applauding the fans. Barton walks off and down the tunnel and a few minutes later Stendel follows. For me Barton waits for him in the tunnel and that makes it all premeditated. Which makes this grounds for GBH in my book.
Got a nasty feeling that Daniel is somehow going to be made to carry part of the blame for this - just a thought.
It was Barton who wouldn't let go of Daniel's hand from the bit I saw at the end of the game. What on earth could he be winding Barton up over, his English isn't that great. I fail to see how on earth it can be even partly his fault.
Has Stendel done anything remotely like Barton's making out in his previous 41 games? No. Has Barton always been a psycho lovely person? Yes. So f*ck off Barton you gormless tw@t and quit football before you get kicked out of it and locked up. lovely person
Stendel walked onto the field to thank the players and acknowledge the crowd as what happens most home games this was after having words and shaking hand at the final whistle. Joey should already be in the changing rooms when Stendel enters the tunnel so the opportunity should never have arose. Pretty clear Joey was hanging about trying to cause trouble yes we don’t know all the facts yet but a leopard never changes it’s spots. It’s protocol for clubs to keep quiet these days and leave it with the police but I’d be very surprised if stendel is in the wrong. Let’s face it there’s a couple of coming togethers across the whole of the football league ever weekend between managers but never reports of violence. If we’d have had a sweep stake to say an incident like this was going to happen Joey would be in my top 3 in the football league the bloke should be no where near management.
