Keelings on Racecommon Road is by far the best chippy in Barnsley and one of the best in Yorkshire.

Really why do you think that - good size portions well cooked good batter for the fish I go there most saturdays when I am up for the match better than any others I know of in the area - though the one at Wombwell Main is pretty good too. Whats terrible about it?

Can I suggest New Road Fisheries,Staincross. Colin is a excellent host, only cooked when you give your order,on a 1930s fryer. Traditional, which suits a lot of people in Staincross/Mapplewell/Greenside.

I used to live around the corner in Broomhill so it was the local chippy.

Its hardly ever open and when it was the standard of the fish was dire. I didn't eat one of them it was that bad, so never went back after that.

Summer Lane is far better than that, in terms of Wombwell Chippys, but like I said above Keelings is better than them all, and consistently wins awards.

The Owner Ian, is a trained Chef as well and properly looks after the fish, all Gluten Free as well. You have to wait for Fish as its all cooked to order.

All the curries are home made and he has varying versions, from Fruit Curries and Spicier.

We've had this thread before a few times.

    RE. Wombwell.

I prefer Tunstall Cross to Summer Lane as well although the chips are a bit scrappy now, should go back to cutting them by hand, fish have always been nice though IMO.

The chips are better at The Main but the fish portions are small.

Summer Lane only wins on portion size really and I don't usually buy fish and chips for that reason.

He's not contributed to this thread as he isn't a fan of fish.

Much prefers a large battered sausage.
