Dunno, that's a question you'll have to ask them.

Point being, they can say whatever they like and repeat it numerous times, but if they don't follow that plan then it's not really what we do at all.

Which suggests to me he’s ready to move on.

Or he was hedging his bets, perhaps the club said if we are in league one we will pay xx and if Championship XX, so he says let’s wait and see.
Coupled with if he has international ambitions and realistically his next contract will be the best he will get in his career, can’t really blame him for wanting to wait.

If he's said he's not going to discuss it until the summer then why would the club waste both of their time putting down another offer. It also implies that there has been a previous offer for discussions to be put on hold.

I'm a Davies fan, but I wonder if the club wouldn't be happy enough to see him move on this summer. He's obviously a fantastic shot stopper, but I thought Walton was playing noticeably further forward when he stepped in. Not out of the question that they'd prefer a goalkeeper who's better with the ball and can sweep up a bit more.

Don’t think I’ve ever agreed with anything you’ve ever posted but you’re right, and it’s evident that the club were right to get shut.
Imagine where we”d be at if the likes of Roberts, Scowen, and Watkins had been tied down to long contracts such as the ones they managed to secure elsewhere without adding any value to their new employers.
Enjoyed watching all of them but we’ve more than replaced them at a fraction of the price.

Like most of us I’m no expert on contract talks but we need it sorting early. We’ve had too many seasons where we’re still bringing players in after the seasons started.

Davies, Jackson, Pinillos & Hedges all have contracts that are running out. I’d keep Davies as first choice & the other three as back up. If they don’t want to stay as back up then replace them.

With Lindsay, Cavare, Thiam, McGeehan & anyone else with only one year remaining we need to get a discussion going early about what terms they expect if we can’t match them get them sold & replaced.

I don’t want to see us doing well in January with them 4 in the team & getting sold because they’ve only got 5 months left under contract & ruining our season right in the middle of it like January 17.

I imagine Pinnock will be off as well as we’ll probably get an offer similar to what we got for Mawson which the club will view as too good to turn down.

The scary thing for me is I think there’s a good chance we’ll need an all new defence as I can see Cavare, Lindsay & Pinnock leaving & I don’t think any of the left backs are good enough to be first choice at Championship level.

    Not having that.

They haven't had a kick because they've moved on to bigger clubs with good squads and they're struggling to get in.

Had we kept that squad together, I believe they may have had at least one season in the premier league by now.

As Jay said, dialogue isn't a contract offer. Maybe the dialogue was 'I've got a premiership team offering me life changing money to be their back up keeper, so let's not bother with a contract offer now when you don't even know what league we're playing in next season'.

That very solid reason that you've requested, is highlighted above. It isn't fair to accept that it 'certainly happened' at all. You've got yourself in a right spin on this one mate.

The plan is to get players to renew or sell them. I think we've done that with the majority, but you can't rigorously stick to a plan all the time. You're allowed to deviate. Jackson was offered a new contract, wouldn't sign, but we couldn't let him go as we couldn't get a replacement in for the rest of the season.

Cavare has another year to go and expires in 2020. We moved on Moncur and Isgrove. So only Hedges and Davies remain really, and the latter was probably an acceptance that we're better off letting him leave for nothing and playing him every week than forcing him out. All of which makes total sense to me.

It's more likely it was even less specific than that.
Club: We'd like to sit down with you and your representatives to discuss a new contract.
Davies: I want to wait until the end of the season before entering any discussions.

I think we've got to the point where we're arguing semantics. What would the dialogue be? If they weren't discussing terms for a contract why did Davies mention them in relation to a contract?

Which is hardly the opposite to the club wanting to give him a contract - which was the assumption that started this farce.

I'll back out now but I think it was your attitude to the debate that made me go back and forth. When you're not even sure yourself maybe just be a bit more open? You've still yet to show me anything that proves Davies has been offered a new contract, which is where the original discussion started and you've had to double down a bit.

Anyway, let's go and get promoted ........

Look at the Maja situation at Sunderland. If they'd have said we'll.wait until the summer but we'd love you to stay instead of forcing the issue and panic buying an unfit Grigg they may still face gone up automatically In some circumstances waiting ro see what division we're in and not forcing a sign or go situation makes sense.
