It would have cost over £200 for play offs. SEmi and Final so if you aint got a seasob ticket. With money youve saved from play offs go and get one
Acknowledging not everyone in Barnsley can afford it - going up in the play offs is magnificent. Like having a great season and a great cup run in one. Worth every penny. - although paying the leccy bill is probably more important. I imagine not going up in the play offs is a bit **** - let me ask a Sheff Utd fan and I'll get back to you..
No need to imagine. Just cast your mind back to 2000. It was wnak! Though the Birmingham away leg is definitely one of my favourite matches ever. Absolutely incredible.
I still overall have fond memories of that day against Ipswich. Maybe because it was our first ever trip to Wembley, but result aside I wasn’t all that despondent going home on the bus.
That was probably the defining moment in the clubs history though. That 99/00 team was better than the 96/97 promotion team and with John Curtis, Darren Barnard, Tinkler, Van De Laan, Hignett and Shipperly I think they'd have stayed up. I was pretty gutted that night.
I think with the whole - first time at Wembley / one of the last club matches at the twin towers etc and stuff it didn't feel so bad - maybe time and subsequent success' have dulled the pain. I certainaly recall it feeling so bad that I would rather have finished 8th and kept the money in my pocket that is. I think I might share the OP's view of I were a Brentford Preston or Sheff United fan though. Most play-off final defeats: 4 – Sheffield United (1997, 2003, 2009, 2012), Reading (1995, 2001, 2011, 2017) Most play-off participations: 10 – Preston North End Most unsuccessful play-off participations: 9 – Preston North End (from 10 participations) Most play-off participations without making the Play-off final: 4 – Nottingham Forest, MK Dons Most play-off participations without winning final: 8 – Brentford, Sheffield United (both from 8 participations)
I enjoyed the day, and I think Ipswich deserved to win overall (though I wouldn't say they outplayed us). However, I think we all knew deep down that the team was going to fall apart, as the parachute payments were coming to an end and players were going to get better offers. In many ways it was a blow that we are still recovering from 19 years later.
