Yeah! Me! Whilst results went against us with Luton, at kick off we had a chance to win the title and had we, in my opinion, approached the game properly we could have scored 4, or 5 and maybe put some pressure on Luton

These players may never have another opportunity in their career to win a title

Unfortunately the celebrations on Tuesday night should have been light with today’s game in mind and at 7:15 tonight they could have drunk as much alcohol as they wanted !!!

Yes, me. I know it doesn't affect our position and we achieved our objective but I wanted us to win. I went to the game hoping to win the league, hoping that Luton would drop points and we'd pip them to the top spot. We're up, that's the most important thing and I'm happy, really happy but I still don't like losing, not when the game was so winnable.

In the grand scale of things you are factually correct! But it does matter because the performance today was way below the level and expectations that the team have set this season for themselves.

They do their job, which is to win, and let the game play out. They didn’t know that Luton would win and therefore had a clear opportunity to win the league and they let themselves down

I'd be lying if I said it hadn't bothered me. I felt deflated at the final whistle and it all seemed to be a bit of an anti-climax for a while. I'm sure I would have felt different if I'd been at the game or the beam back though.

Absolutely. Isn't the idea to win the game? Did the fans pay a reduced price to see less effort?

They lost 2-1, conceding the losing goal when the home side broke on a counter attack after we had continued, without much success, to attack Bristol Rovers looking to win the game. Even when they probably knew Luton were 3-1 up, and having played a half with ten men.

The only folk letting anyone down is any fan who criticises this young side for putting in a slightly below par performance after a season in which they’ve been in the main magnificent and achieved what few who didn’t support the club thought was likely before a ball was kicked.

Did I want them to win the league or at least the game to push Luton? Yeah. Not in the slightest bit have we been ‘let down’ that this wasn’t to be though.

I saw a side not play well, with tired legs and probably mentally exhausted.

I didn’t see a side not trying though, I didn’t see anyone not making an effort.

I don’t like losing but I think some of this thread is harsh. It’s not like they went out pissed and did nothing like in Oxford 22 years ago.

They turned up wanting to win and tried to. They didn’t succeed and so you might criticise the performance - not a lot of point - but the effort? Really?

After what the team and management has given us this season anyone who says this team have let themselves down needs their heads checking.

Our aim was promotion. We achieved that. You only need to compare us with Sunderland, Portsmouth, Charlton and maybe Peterborough to realise the lads have done anything other than let themselves down.

Give them a little slack, they could have won 6-1 and it wouldn’t have made a blind bit of difference.

We started the game very well.

I think if Lindsay doesn't get sent off, we win the game comfortably.

One of those things. Stendel rotated a few players after that, tried to give a few fringe players some game time. Fryers, for example.

To be honest at the beamback I felt deflated for a tiny bit on injury time but they could have stayed sober Tuesday and won the game and it still makes no difference. Instead they had the spontaneous enjoyment of that night. As Danny Wilson said, these moments dont come often and you have to enjoy them. And they certainly have!

I'm going to be a bit holier than thou here. I don't drink much as I get absolutely crippling hangovers so it's easy for me to say and I know I'm probably in a minority of one but I think any celebrations should have been delayed until after yesterday's game.
If promotion had still been riding on the result I think we'd have won yesterday. A title was still on the line and, although I'm sure we put the effort in, I don't reckon they were mentally up for it.
Anyway, in the great scheme of things it doesn't really matter. It's been a magnificent season and a superb achievement in the face of some major obstacles along the route.
    Well done lads.

I agree 100%. I was going to post something similar that Bristol came out 2nd half with intent. Stendel could have closed up shop with 10 men and played defensively. Instead they played to try and score more goals. He even brought young Green on to give him game time and try to use his pace on the break which nearly paid off. Yes, it was a below par performance and yes, we have won convincingly in the past with ten men but Bristol, to their credit went for the win big time and were the better side IMO 2nd half. Onwards and upwards.

Not even a tiny bit, the atmosphere in that away end was fantastic. Loved every minute of it, currently laid in bed in a Bristol Premier inn with a fairly decent headache myself. Love those lads, brilliant

Spot on, it may have been different at the beam back and I get that, but at the game by the time the 2nd Bristol goal went in not one Barnsley fan in the stadium cared, the party had already begun.
