Next season I hope we don’t make too many changes. A couple of key players and some depth will do us good. I think we were already good enough for championship. We just needed someone to guide us. Stendel is the right man too. Every man deserves a chance next year. Might work for some might not for some I know championships a massive step but we were a massive step ahead of 95 percent of teams in this league as they are a lot sleeping giants.
Totally agree. The summer will be defined by the players we don't lose rather than those who we do recruit. Couple of wise auditions is all that's required in my opinion.
The only ones I’d see as good enough are Pinnock and Lindsay though of course everyone should be given the chance to show their qualities.
So Davies and ever improving Bahre and Jacob Brown are not Championship candidates in your book then to name but three? A bit harsh IMO.
We need to keep most players and add a sprinkling of new players that will IMMEDIATELY strengthen the squad. But how Is this going to be possible when the plan at the club is to only recruit young players with potential that they hope to improve ?!?!?! It’s a conundrum arr tell thi .......... a conundrum !!!
Hope I’m proved wrong, but personally think the majority of the current squad aren’t genuine Championship quality.
I’ve seen this before. When some players are relegated their skill level seems to dip to the level of that league. Reverse seems to happen when players are promoted - they seem to lift their game. Next season some of our players are going to surprise us. Others will be unable to step up.
Whatever we do we mustn't fall into the trap of leaving it to the last minute to pick over the scraps. What Daniel wants, Daniel must get like he did with Bahre.
Whilst I'm in danger of sounding like a fan boy I think there is every chance that Bahre will thrive in the Championship with more time and space that he is likely to get away from the L1 'cloggers'
The jury is out on Alex. He has been great in L1 but looked miles off the pace in the Championship. That’s not to say he can’t do it. The same for quite a few others but there are few players in our team who haven’t tried and failed before at a higher level.
He also looked miles off the pace in League 1 for Oxford, as did McGeehan for Scunthorpe, yet both have had unbelievable seasons for the Reds and both are undoubtedly of Championship quality. It’s worth noting that Mowatt was previously sensational for Leeds until a management change limited his chances. Are your eyes painted on, @Jimmy viz?
I think the spine of our team is strong and could do well in the championship. As much as I’ve liked watching Pinillos this season, I think his pace (or lack of) might be exposed in the championship. Cavare has been good this season, hopefully he can be as dominating next season too. I wasn’t expecting Brown to hit the level he has done this year so hopefully he can keep surprising me and do well again next season. Thiam has been quite hit and miss this season and I’d guess he’ll probably find it harder to be a “hit” next season. For me, it’s more of a squad that we need to build. Couple of strikers (unless Miller is involved with us then just one), couple of wingers and a centre back.
Think we will struggle with the squad we have got we need to strengthen defensively and give Mowatt a midfielder who will dominate and give Him time to play ,up front we luck good barring injuries feel free to bump when we win promotion to the premier with the lads we have you redzzzz
Pinilos,Mowett, had Championship experience before they joined us.I expect Pinnock,Davies,Woodrow,Moore,Brown,McGeehan Bahre to make the step up.Dougall,Cavare and Thiam to be good enough for the squad. The 2 Williams might take a bit of time to adjust but have loads of potential.I think we have a decent core to our team but we definitely need a stronger squad next year to cope with injuries, suspensions etc.We got away with it this year but I think the Championships less forgiving.
No I just work based on what actually is rather than what I would like it to be. I’m not writing anyone off not am I going overboard. Unlike people like you I won’t turn on the team or players if they are less than sparkling.
It all depends on the clubs ambition, I personally think this current squad will struggle. There's been quite a few games where the opposition have created clear cut chances, only to fluff it. Off the top of my head I remember Plymouth having some great opportunities at Oakwell in the draw early in the season, Donny Rovers both home and away created several great chances, and was it Shrewsbury who had 3 one on ones a few weeks back... Against championship opposition, these chances won't be missed.
