Just watched the penalty shoot out between Chelsea and Frankfurt which Chelsea won 4-3. They now play Arsenal who won 7-3 on aggregate in their tie against Valencia earlier.
And two clubs 20 miles away from each other will fly 40,000 fans 2500 miles to Asia at god knows what impact on the environment to watch 90 minutes of football. If we can't stop **** like this happening I'm sticking with the plastic straws and the diesel turbo thanks very muc.
20 miles? Not even 10. Playing a major European final in a country which is under UEFA but can be argued isn’t even in Europe (nobody agrees where Asia starts) is ridiculous enough. This particular country, Azerbaijan, doesn’t allow people in from Armenia due to a war which officially ended 25 years ago - meaning Arsenal cannot take one of their first team players unless some massive diplomatic improvement is made. It is an absolute clusterfuck of an embarrassment. Four teams from England, three of which from the same city, are in the finals of the two tournaments. They all have to fly, the champions league final is reasonably located in one of the central countries but to have a final out in Azerbaijan is frankly ridiculous. Though not as ridiculous as holding a World Cup in an Arab country that have no history of any footballing prowess and then realising that it might be a tad warm if they do it in summer, so UEFA are in good company as FIFA are as bad or worse.
Apparently Baku "won" the rights to stage the final with other bids from Seville and Istanbul. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48224809 Perhaps all 4 teams ought to do a Bolton and go on strike!
