After reading some of the posts in ....... ............ ‘One thing i hate about being in the championship is ........ ‘ ......... it’s evident after reading comments on that thread that damage has been done during the previous ownership on how our own fans perceive the club. Comments like - ‘clubs like Barnsley’. I’m old enough to remember when Barnsley was a well established 2nd tier club - on the same level as clubs like Blackburn, Bolton, Burnley. And better than clubs like Bournemouth and Watford. All of which have had stays in the Premeir while Barnsley has been slowly sliding down the pecking order. If comments on that other post is anything to go by then the owners have a big task of hauling the club back to how it was once perceived. This view is formed after reading posts on here - it’s not a dig at Patrick - he did what he could with the money he had.
Most of the complaints in that thread were about kick off times, international breaks and tickets price, coupled with the arrogance of other teams , their fans and the media. Non of those things are really in the remit of our owners, we just keep doing what we do. What I like about the championship? Being the underdog.
See nothing wrong with thread It is Yorkshire man giving a straight up front view. Yorkshire men and particularly Barnsley fans give it straight from the hip Nudger does that but with a twist, he does it to wind one ore two up and they bite.....
Nothing against this thread or your post but.........why is there a need to wind anyone up in the first place? What's the point?
Young Nudger may have a valid point, but I emphasise may. What BFC have done since coming out of administration is run the club on a more honest basis than their counterparts. Clubs like Man City, United, Chelsea, Wolves and many others have bought their success by dubious means, both bending and breaking the financial rules imposed by the sports governing bodies. Such practice is no less than cheating. I don't want my club to be tarnished as a cheat. As a Barnsley supporter I am pleased that I can hold my head up when talking with my Wednesday and Leeds 'friends' in the knowledge that my club is run with integrity and probity. Our success when we achieve it will be on the basis of doing things right.
Guess any other poster would have got a more balanced answer to their post... Don't agree all the time with nudger but he has a point... Rome wasn't built in a day re new owners and their plans but time will tell.. good football like we've seen this season will hopefully put more bums on seats... All other attractions are just stocking fillers in reality...
Does the club have more money now than when Patrick was in charge? I wasn’t aware there were any new sponsorship deals that were already signed.
Johanes Brahms wrote Variations on a Theme by Haydn and he also wrote Variations on a Theme by Handel. (liked a bit of variety did Johanes!)
The club has been guilty in the past of resting on it's laurels that's why it stagnated. We're seeing a recovery now.
Other than the comment you have used to somehow decide its down to the damage done under the previous ownership, even though the term 'teams like barnsley' has been used for aslong as I can remember, which of these other comments made in that thread can you attribute to your cause ? International Breaks Away ticket prices Teams who live on their former greatness or success from decades ago Losing games Losing away at QPR. Again. I wish it was still called the second division. Call me old fashioned. there’s too many midweek games Parachute payments. Midweek games and stupid kick off times. Sheffield Wednesday Hate the **** ground no fans song, hate the big city teams and fans, hate the teams like barnsley saying, hate the clubs that spend over their means but nothing happens it should be illegal to pay someone in the same league as us 30k per week to not even make the bench , hate the arrogance of big money players. Losing at Oakwell. The condescending plastic fans from the glory clubs asking me what division little old Barnsley are in and being fake surprised at the response. Having to join the FA cup in round 3. Soulless football ‘stadiums’. Not being in the JPT
There is trust to rebuild with a lot of the fanbase, there's no doubt about it. I can't be certain that we aren't going to fill our pockets again when the offers come in for the class of 2019 and they have me lock, stock and barrel when work and finances permit.
That was my comment and was a dig at the arrogance of other clubs, their fans and the media. It's even used by clubs who haven't spent nearly as much time as we have in the second tier. You could easily turn it around and say that it's bloody brilliant when teams like Barnsley give a few teams a going over.
Other clubs have chucked money at it, we haven't. That's the main reason all the other teams you mention have done better. Some have done so well that they're skint now. Others will fall into that category in the future. If by 'a big rebuild' you mean we should spend more than we have coming in, just to keep up with the Jones', you will be waiting a long time.
I don’t know whether you noticed but I didn’t compare Barnsley to Man City or even Wolves. I said we were a stable 2nd tier side comparable to clubs like Blackburn, Bolton and Burnley at that time. Since then all have had time spent in the Premeir while Barnsley has been playing yo-yo between the bottom of the Championship and 1st Division.
