Thinks there should be equality in men's and women's football and that one day the men in suits will understand. The men in suits do understand. That's why there will never be equality between the two sports. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48353915
When the women’s game is capable of generating the money that the men’s game is then there absolutely should be equal pay. Ultimately it’s a business and the women’s game is a different, less successful product. Would it not be unfair to the men’s players in the lower leagues who are more capable footballers and attract more revenue if they were paid less than female players? That’s not equality, it’s discrimination.
Men are paid obscene money in football because fans fork out obscene money on men's football. They don't for women's football. That's just the reality unfortunately.
There's no equal pay in men's football either. Pay is based on value to the team which is why Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar etc earn far more than their own team mates. She's zero chance of seeing women earn the same as men until the crowds soar to a miraculous level.
Is there a massive tv audience for women's football? What is the average attendance for games played in the women's super league? The standards are not the same and this also applies to womens cricket and womens rugby. In my opinion it is not racist but fact. Harsh but fair.
Just looked into this, cos I'm curious and apparently she earns 0.3% of what Messi earns. So she's on roughly $2000 a week...
She never once mentioned money, apart from to say “this is not about money” They’re fighting for the women’s game to get more respect from within the sport, which I do think is a fair point. They want to make it easier for girls to aspire to be footballers. I saw something the other day where female squash players won a tournament and got given as a prize, a dildo, leg waxing strips and foot files, alongside their trophies. That’s the kind of thing that needs to stop in female sport. I know it’s not the norm, or even common, by the way. Link here, but in Spanish... https://elpais.com/sociedad/2019/05/20/actualidad/1558376473_024784.html
I see that now, my apologies. I assumed the article was just a transcript of the video, but they’ve cut that part out of the video for some reason. That’s silly, there will never be equal pay. I do think she has a point with attitudes, however. She would get a lot more respect if she focused on that, rather than money. There isn’t enough money in the female game, so I’m not sure where they want the money to come from. In time, perhaps there will be, maybe more people will want to watch it, sky will offer millions for coverage, but not currently.
From men paying for it by the looks of things. https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...footballers-equal-pay-agreement-a8112016.html
Equal pay in sports, maybe start by making the women play best out of 5 sets then at Wimbledon, dont see or hear women screaming for that particular change
Average pay in the women’s super league is under 30k - per year that is, not per week. Internationals with central contracts and top club deals still get well under 100k per year https://www.manchestereveningnews.c...news/how-much-women-footballers-earn-11147481
I didn't think they were on half a million quid year on the back of attendances comfortably under 1,000.
