Shortly due to complete the sale of my house with ex wife in Sheffield (oughtibridge) and looking to purchase in Barnsley as can get much more for my money. Can anyone comment on Hemingfield and if it’s a decent enough place to live? Viewed a really nice house there!

You could pick a lot worse places to move to pal.

Lived in Hemingfield 30+ years. Would recommend it. Depends on what your looking for. 2 pubs. Another nearby in lundhill. Slight walk. Good walks and scenery. (Dovecliffe and penine trail between elsecar heritage and cottonwood retail park.) Plenty of services nearby. (2 miles) Cortonwood retail park. Wombwell and Hoyland. Public transport a bit lacking (bus service tends to go all round the borough. so long journeys if wanting to go to tarn) Although train station (Wombwell) 1/2 to 1mile depending on location.
Community group organise events. ( own Facebook page)
    Hope this helps.
Ps at least you’ll be in tyke territory and not swillsbro. :)

Been living in Hemingfield for 4 years it's a great village. Was brought up in Monk Bretton and it's just like there when I was growing before it expanded.
Its quiet and like other contributions state green with plenty of walks etc. 2 good pubs, chippy amazing and local shop. Plus you've got Cortonwood on the doorstep so you can shop during less busy times.
It's a good community got a good school and plenty of community groups. You feel everyone who lives here wants to look after the village.
Also good commuter links with Wombwell station just up the road.

Lived in Hemingfield since 2007 when I moved out of parents. Previously lived in neighbouring Elsecar and Jump so wanted somewhere close enough to family but still keeping a little distance if you know what I mean. Great little village.

Personally location is spot on. 10-15 mins walk to Wombwell train station for work in town/home games (4 mins ride one stop) and also great Dearne Valley bypass connections to M1 for missus working in Sheffield.

Village is nice and quiet but still has a good community spirit with regular action group meetings to mull over the latest topics etc if you want to get involved. Most recently gaining funds for two defibrillators. Village gala once a year hosted at the local school. Think it’s 8th June this year.

Pubs (Albion, Elephant and Castle and Lundhill Tavern a little further), chippy and shop. Also has Trans Pennine Trail running through bottom of village for connections to Cortonwood one way and Elsecar the other. Numerous good pubs in Elsecar too which I often call in on the dog walk. Surrounded by countryside which ever way you go.

Depends what you want really. Tried to give a varied answer but if you want any specifics ask away.

Live on Lady Croft mate can't fault the village at all. We looked at a few houses in the village but they go quickly. We got lucky cos the estate agent let us know before a board went up.

As someone who was brought up in Elsecar, which I still consider the greatest place on Earth, I'd recommend Hemmingfield.

Still remember going from top to bottom of Tingle Bridge Lane sat on a skateboard, I was about 9 at the time and fell off halfway down, broke my arm. Great times.

I don't see me ever moving back to Tarn, but if ever I did, it'd be either Hemmingfield, Elsecar or Wentworth. Best area ont planet, sithi.

Not Jump. Jump can fcuuk off. We used to be at war with any lads from up there. Again, great times.

I love the whole area if I'm honest. Lived just under 10 years of my life there. Only get back once a year to the cemetery, pay respects to my mam & dad.

I look back at my childhood and I know I was blessed with my surroundings. It was the age of where everyone's door was left open, everyone knew each other. I could hear my mam shouting me in for my dinner/tea no matter where I was in the village pretty much. We had the canal to go up and down, all the woodland, the park and res, golf course, cricket club, football for the Falcons up Hoyland Common, sports centre in Hoyland. Proper blessed. Spent the last couple of years of my childhood in Athersley and it was bleak in comparison.

I remember 1986 as a young un and it snowed like fccuk. And when it snowed in our area, you were proper knackered. Because Elsecar's practically stuck in a valley. Remember going up the 'big hill' as I called it as a kid, the slag heap and going down it on bin-liners.

I'll shut up now. Can tell am getting old when I'm reminiscing about my childhood.
