What a defensive masterclass by the Pats. Quite embarrassing for the Rams to get one field goal in a hour of play.
Another reason why Big Bill's the master tactician. Made McVay look an amateur, went with defensive looks from years ago. Every year they go back to plays which have worked either for them or other teams. Being a Niners i'm glad Rams blew it. They've got next year and after that they'll be in salary cap hell. Put their house on winning a super bowl in a 2 year period. Patriots build through the draft, they always look to brains over muscle, get players that fit the scheme and are adaptable. That's why they've been 9 out of the last 16 super bowls, in a league that's built on parity its amazing. They've only missed out on Play Offs once if memory serves me correctly.
RIP Bart Starr. One of the best leaders and winners in NFL history. From 200th overall draft pick in 1956 to 5 time world champion, he was the heart of Vince Lombardi's dynasty.
An interesting read on his life. RIP Bart http://www.espn.co.uk/nfl/story/_/id/26826288/bart-starr-was-toughest-football-player-ever-lived
Think we had a thread on here a while back about the strength of tackles rugby v american football: i'd rather have a helmet and luxury padding.
I wouldn't fancy being tackled by any to be honest mate! Some of the league lads are ridiculously powerful, knocking people out right left and centre.
Cracking start to the season for my team the niners, not the toughest of starts but I've a tenner on them for outsiders for the Superbowl. I did the same last year but Jimmy G got injured for the season early doors and that scuppered that bet.
Had a five pound eight timer with Sky Bet yesterday for points in every quarter of every six o clock game and got 91 pounds. Wish i'd been brave and added the other five matches that day, as those came in too. Great start for my 49ers with Jimmy back fit for this season. It's a tough schedule all through the season, but play offs should be happening for once.
Bringing this back because WOWW at the Ravens-Raiders game NFL fans here gotta check out the replay/highlights when you get a chance, the entire 4th quarter you'll be scratching your heads haha
Long time Dolphins fan since about 1992. Quite excited about this season. We may be pretty good after 20 years of crap. I love the NFL. and Fantasy NFL is 100,000 times better than anything fantasy football related.
Add in The Bucs vs. The Cowboys, Browns vs. Chiefs and Bengals vs. Vikings and it was an incredible return to full stadiums and a proper season.
Had my bum twitching late on Sunday. Smashed em for 3 quarters and then took foot completely off the gas. Losing Verrett for the season seemed to stun us, Mostert also out for 6-8 weeks. Will need to add some experience at running back and bring in a tried tested corner. Sounds like Dre Firzpatrick is signing, which is a bit meh! Wanted Sherman back but he's had off the field issues and doubt he's fit enough to plug in and play. Like always the team who'll win it all will need plenty of look on the injury front. Niners seem to be cursed.
Jimmy was on fire on Sunday, nothing like a rocket up your bum to perform. Young Lance will be a great QB in time once he's perfected his touch and the elaborate Shanahan system. The out route he threw on Sunday shows he learning quickly, he's got a cannon of an arm but sometimes in this system all he'll need to do is dink and dunk.
The Eagles are in a transitional season with a new HC and having moved on from Carson Wentz. Expectations for the season are low, but they surprised everyone with how well they played to beat the Falcons on Sunday. The only team to win in the NFC East too, so a great Week 1 overall.
I first got interested in the NFL when I went to live in Hong Kong in 1980 as it was shown on tv there. I preferred the blue collar teams to the US equivalent of Man U, like the Dolphins and the 49s. My preferred teams were the Eagles, Packers, Browns and the Bills. I later settled for the Eagles when Randall Cunningham became a regular starter. He was different from all the other quarterbacks. He could run with the ball, pass, scramble and even kick. That said my interest has waned over the last 20 years and I only occasionally watch it. That said one of the most fascinating characters in world sport was “Broadway Joe”, Joe Namath, the quarterback for the New York Jets. The sub title to his biography was titled “ I can’t wait for tomorrow, because I get better looking every day”. A real flash git, but someone who people would pay to watch.
Love the game, I think more would appreciate it if they understood the rules a little better, took me a while to figure it out & now I'm hooked. I started in the Marino/Elway era, liked the Raiders at the time but now root for the Cincinnati Bengals, Haven't got a clue about any of the players for them minst just like them because Tigers are magnificent. Gooooooooooo Bengals..........GRRRRRRRRRRRRR Edit. Tom Brady though is the GOAT, no doubt
Just to advise, if anyone is interested, that I have two tickets available at face value for the Jets vs Falcons game at White Hart Lane on October 10th. I have season tickets for the London games with some friends but not all of them are getting used for this game. PM me if interested. For info, face value for the pair was £171 with the booking fees and they're in block 524 if you want to check the stadium map (upper tier along the touchline).
Jaguars just ended the second longest winless run in NFL history to win the Florida Derby. The kicker kicked for 54 yards to level and 53 yards to win. Brilliant ending.
