So progressive. If it doesn't sell more than the original then it's pure sexism. https://news.sky.com/story/three-lions-song-rewritten-for-womens-world-cup-11730096
They’re really trying to push the women’s game down our throats aren’t they? Annoying really. The standard what I’ve seen so far is horrific and therefore have zero interest in the upcoming World Cup. But you does it really need to be everywhere we look now? That said I did have the same opinion on women’s boxing this time last year but Katie Taylor has changed the game for me. Maybe football could be the same and all this promotion might be worth it in the end.
What a load of nonsense. The ladies game is getting more exposure than ever, it's now given the credibility of deserves, there are ex female pro's involved in commentary and shows. I don't see where the sexism that the song refers to is. Is it because there is nowhere near the revenue and money in the women's game because that is not sexism.
I always think It’s ‘alright’ just gets on my nerves when they try to push it as being as good as the men’s game. I certainly couldn’t get behind it week in week out. That’s not meant to be sexist , it’s meant in the same way about other sport, I’ll watch a bit of Tennis but I couldn't follow it regularly
Depends whether it's any good or not in my opinion. If its well produced, well sung etc then fair enough. If its crap then it should be outed as crap. I'm always a bit wary of good songs/films being reworked in any case as I can't see the point usually.
I sincerely wish them all the best with their footballing aspirations but I agree, I think the standard is terrible and I wouldn't watch it. It's certainly not sexism, not unless being honest has become sexist. I also agree that it being pushed as an equal to the men's game is turning people off.
If you've watched women's football and find it to be poor then fair enough for me. Having said that though there are loads of men's matches I've seen over the years (BFC included) that have been wrist-slittingly awful. I think whatever you find entertaining is personal choice and sexism is a red herring. I'm sure some people think women's footy is great and fair do's to them too.
I don't like the cynical way they have used an anthemic song associated with the men's team and tried to turn it into an everyone is sexist crusade, just because they aren't interested.
To be honest I've not heard it or read any lyrics. If what you say is true about the motives/hype then I agree with your view.
Got to say im not a big fan of these pop football songs nowadays. It’s a bit 1980s for me and i think they are barking up the wrong tree with this.
Think you’ve hit the nail on the head here. Having an opinion based on what you’ve seen is fine, but to blanketly say “women's football is rubbish” without having ever watched it, (as many do) is sexist in my opinion. Im willing to bet Ive seen more women’s football than most here, and i have seen some fantastic games (and some terrible ones). Ive seen some unbelievable skill, technique and talent. Ive also seen players who can’t kick the ball properly, or who have no positional sense whatsoever. I don’t think it’s terrible. Generally speaking I think it’s less entertaining than the Men’s game. However, Id suggest that Women’s football is improving all the time. As for people saying it’s being rammed down their throats - there are hundreds of other channels to watch - just turn over. Thats what I do when Romesh Ranganathan is rolled out every evening on some show or other. There are good reasons behind the coverage, so just turn over and leave it to those who are interested.
Surely using a song written by men for men as the basis for the women's version goes against everything feminism stands for? I think they'd probably win more plaudits if they wrote their own anthem.
When I worked at Doncaster Met in the mid 80s I was asked to play in a Local Govt 7 a side tournament but when I found out there was a Women’s team playing I couldn’t get my sneery “I’m not playing in a tournament that has Women playing, it won’t be competitive.” out quick enough, and to anyone that would listen. Women’s football- pah! Anyway I was persuaded to play and ironically we drew the Women’s team in the first game. 15 minutes later we were on the end on a 7-1 tonkimg. Moreover my views had reached our opponents and I was a reasonable shade of back and blue. Moral of the story? Don’t take the piss when you’re playing the Doncaster Belles!!
I have no interest in Formula 1, Wimbledon, or the Premier League, but somehow refrain from posting about it on here. God forbid anyone brings up kids football! Good luck to the ladies, I hope they win it.
First of all I hope the England women's team do well as with any England team, however from an interest point of view it offers no appeal to me what so ever. The standard compared to the Men's game is very poor, giving it live expose does not make it any better, in my opinion, however I respect those who do. That is the main virtue of this country (except when it comes to the EU - ANOTHER STORY!) I would ask the question if the Beeb were not locked out of Men's Football by Sky / BT would the women's game be getting the same level of expose as it will this summer. If they could show live England Nations league, regular live premier league, and european live games would they still have the same level of interest from Auntie? The problem is by giving what is generally a 'low' standard of football mass exposure, they are now looking to push for equal remuneration and standing. Well sorry when you have a League of 20 teams playing to billion wide audiences world wide with TV deals to reflect, then maybe we can agree. The above is fueled by the TV companies sudden desire to force PC down the nations throats and we now 'have' to have a female pundit / commentator on everything. Surely the mantra should be the best person for the job irrespective of sex? As some one earlier posted this is now becoming a Sexual Crusade, for some i.e. the song lyrics rather than the love of watching and supporting sport. I hope everybody who loves to play football at what ever level does it to the best of their ability and enjoyment but please do not try to distort the view that we should all think what will be served up in France this summer will provide the levels of skill power and entertainment as was seen last year or that it ever reach that level in the foreseeable future.
As a woman I'd say no it's not sexist to say rhat. As long as you have actually watched some and not just assumed.
